Job Description
Job Overview
The Tax Associate will support the company's tax compliance, reporting, and audit requirements in the Philippines. The role is responsible for preparing accurate tax returns and supporting schedules, maintaining complete documentation, monitoring filing deadlines, and assisting with Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) examinations.
The successful candidate should be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to manage recurring deadlines in a fast-paced commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns, including VAT, expanded withholding tax, final withholding tax, corporate income tax, and other applicable taxes.
- Prepare BIR schedules, alphalists, tax certificates, and supporting reconciliations.
- Reconcile tax returns against the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor tax filing and payment deadlines to ensure full and timely compliance.
- Maintain complete and organized tax records, invoices, official receipts, certificates, and supporting documents.
- Assist with BIR audits, Letters of Authority, tax assessments, and requests for information.
- Coordinate with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Legal, and business teams on tax-related matters.
- Review transactions and supporting documents to ensure the correct tax treatment and withholding rates are applied.
- Assist with local government tax filings, business permit renewals, and other statutory requirements.
- Support the preparation of tax provisions and disclosures for monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Monitor changes in Philippine tax regulations and assess their potential impact on the company.
- Liaise with external tax advisers, auditors, and government agencies when required.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend improvements to tax processes and internal controls.
- Perform other tax and finance-related duties assigned by the Tax Manager or Finance leadership.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 1–3 years of relevant experience in Philippine taxation, preferably within a commercial company, accounting firm, or tax advisory practice.
- Working knowledge of Philippine tax regulations and BIR compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with eFPS, eBIRForms, and other relevant government filing platforms.
- Experience preparing tax returns, reconciliations, alphalists, and supporting schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Proficiency in Netsuite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently with appropriate supervision.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- CPA qualification is preferred but not required.
- Experience supporting BIR audits or Letters of Authority is an advantage.
- Experience with an ERP or accounting system is an advantage.
