Job Description

The Tax and General Ledger Accountant is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with all applicable tax laws and statutory requirements while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger. The role involves preparing, filing, and remitting taxes, performing balance sheet account reconciliations, supporting the monthly financial closing process, and coordinating regulatory submissions, including PEZA requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare, review, file, and ensure timely payment of all applicable taxes, including:
  • Corporate Income Tax
  • Withholding Taxes (Expanded Withholding Tax, Withholding Tax on Compensation, and other applicable withholding taxes)
  • Fringe Benefits Tax
  • Final Taxes
  • Value-Added Tax (VAT), if applicable
  • Other national and local taxes as required by law
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and monitor changes in tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external auditors or tax consultants during tax audits and assessments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate tax records and supporting documentation.

General Ledger and Financial Reporting

  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations by product line and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
  • Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals, provisions, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support the preparation of schedules required for internal and external audits.

Statutory and Regulatory Compliance

  • Prepare and submit PEZA applications and documentary requirements for new projects, expansions, and other incentives-related submissions.
  • Ensure timely submission of all statutory reports and regulatory filings to government agencies, including PEZA, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and other relevant authorities.
  • Monitor compliance calendars to ensure all statutory deadlines are met.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing process improvements to enhance accounting and tax compliance.
  • Support finance-related projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties that may be assigned by management.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in taxation and general ledger accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Philippine taxation, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in PEZA compliance and incentive reporting is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Oracle ERP/accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills

  • At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in taxation and general ledger accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Philippine taxation, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in PEZA compliance and incentive reporting is an advantage.
