Job Description

Position Summary

The Tax and Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing the organization's tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities. This role ensures accurate preparation and timely filing of tax returns, compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations, and supports management in minimizing tax risks while optimizing tax strategies. The position also supervises a team of accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Supervise the preparation and filing of corporate income tax, VAT, withholding taxes, and other statutory tax returns.
  • Review tax computations, schedules, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with local regulations.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and advise management on implications and required adjustments.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants during audits and assessments.

Tax Planning & Strategy

  • Provide recommendations on tax-efficient structures and transactions.
  • Assist in developing strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring full compliance.
  • Support management in financial decision-making by providing tax impact analysis.

Team Supervision & Development

  • Supervise and mentor tax and accounting staff, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in their work.
  • Allocate tasks, review deliverables, and monitor performance against deadlines.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Maintain proper documentation and internal controls over tax-related processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline tax accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and tax regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in tax accounting, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate tax laws, BIR regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Experience in dealing with tax audits and liaising with external auditors/consultants.
  • Proficient in accounting software and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
