Job Description

Role: Senior Tax Accountant

Contract: Part-time Remote Contractor (5 - 20 hours weekly / 20 - 80 hours monthly)

Service Hours: Flexible

Rate: $13 - $15 USD hourly (Salary is negotiable based on experience and location)

Availability to Start: Immediately

This US-based accounting and advisory firm supports individuals and businesses with tax preparation, bookkeeping, and Virtual CFO services. They take a hands-on, personalized approach to help clients stay compliant, manage their finances effectively, and make informed decisions for long-term growth.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll play an essential role in ensuring compliance with U.S. tax regulations while supporting clients with strategic tax planning and accurate filings. You will manage complex tax matters, stay up to date with evolving tax laws, and consistently deliver reliable, high-quality service to clients. Your core responsibilities will include the following:

U.S. Tax Preparation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and accurately file U.S. individual and business tax returns, specifically focusing on Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120.
  • Ensure all filings comply with federal and state tax regulations for various entity types, including LLCs, S Corporations, and C Corporations.
  • Conduct thorough internal reviews of tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation prior to final submission.

Accounting & Bookkeeping Support:

  • Provide essential accounting support by performing detailed bank and account reconciliations to ensure financials are tax-ready.
  • Utilize QuickBooks (or similar accounting platforms) to maintain accurate general ledgers and categorize financial transactions correctly.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure that bookkeeping data flows into the tax preparation process, reducing year-end adjustments.

Documentation & Audit Readiness:

  • Maintain meticulously organized digital tax records and work papers to support all tax positions taken.
  • Support audit readiness by ensuring all supporting documents, receipts, and financial statements are labeled and stored according to firm standards.

Regulatory Monitoring:

  • Stay informed on relevant changes to U.S. federal and state tax laws to ensure ongoing compliance for all assigned client accounts.

What You Should Have

Must-haves:

  • Minimum of five years of experience with US-based accounting firms, focusing on tax accounting.
  • At least one year of experience in a global remote setup with a company based in North America.
  • Previous experience working with LLCs, S-Corporations, and C-Corporations.
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks or similar Accounting CRMs.
  • Strong proficiency in Drake Tax Software or similar Tax Software.
  • Skilled in preparing various tax returns: partnerships, S-corps, C-corps, individuals, and trusts.
  • Strong knowledge of US tax laws, compliance standards and multi-state filings.
  • Proven experience handling Forms 1120S, 1120, 1065, and 1040.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace experience.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership with a results-driven mindset.
  • Detail-oriented with expertise in complex reconciliations and tax documentation.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills in a remote environment.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Familiarity with Power BI and Pivot Tables.
