Role Summary
The Take-Off Technician is responsible for performing detailed quantity take-offs and scope analysis for underground precast concrete products used in stormwater, sanitary sewer, and water distribution systems. This role supports estimating and sales by ensuring accurate material quantification for precast structures such as manholes, junction boxes, vaults, wet wells, catch basins, and related components.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret civil engineering plans, profiles, and utility drawings for wet utility systems
- Perform detailed take-offs for: Sanitary sewer manholes and structures, Storm drain structures and catch basins, Water vaults and meter boxes, Wet wells and lift station structures, Inlet/outlet pipe openings and core requirements
- Identify structure types, diameters, depths, base sections, risers, cones, flat tops, and specialty components
- Analyze pipe schedules, rim and invert elevations, and structure depths to determine configuration
- Quantify accessories including steps, frames & covers, boots, waterstops, coatings, and penetrations
- Coordinate with estimating and sales teams to clarify scope and ensure alignment with project requirements
- Identify missing information, design inconsistencies, or conflicts within plans
- Assist in pricing and revisions
- Prepare organized take-off summaries and cost input sheets
- Support project turnover to engineering and production teams
Required Qualifications
- Experience with underground precast concrete manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and utility profiles
- Strong understanding of wet utility systems (storm drain, sanitary sewer, water distribution)
- Strong math skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple bid deadlines
- MS Excel
- 5+ years of experience in wet utility estimating or take-offs
- Knowledge of precast concrete structure components and configurations
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with municipal standards and agency specifications
- Associate degree or technical training in construction management, civil engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in take-off software a plus (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Proficiency in Titan 3000 Software (optional)
- Proficiency in Solid Works Software (optional)
