Roles and Key Responsibilities
Advanced Operational Monitoring & Proactive Identification
- Perform continuous and in-depth monitoring of operational dashboards, alerts, and system health indicators across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Analyze complex operational data to identify subtle trends, anomalies, and potential precursors to L3-level issues, reporting findings to Sr. Systems Admin Specialist or Supervisor.
Data-Driven Incident Support
- Conduct in-depth analysis into performance bottlenecks, recurring operational issues, or system inefficiencies, providing data-driven insights and supporting data to operational teams for troubleshooting and resolution.
Performance Data Analysis & Optimization
- Perform in-depth data analysis of system performance, identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas where optimization can be achieved through operational adjustments.
Operational Insights & Reporting
- Develop and maintain insightful operational reports and dashboards that present key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational health metrics.
- Generate ad-hoc analytical reports to support L3 problem management, post-incident reviews, and ongoing operational assessments.
Technical Process & Efficiency Support
- Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for improving existing L3 operational processes, such as incident resolution workflows or change validation procedures.
Advanced Operational Tooling & Data Skills
- Proficiently utilize and navigate a diverse set of monitoring, logging, observability, and data visualization tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana, APM tools, cloud-native analytics services).
- Develop and refine scripts (e.g. Python, PowerShell, shell scripting, API interactions) to gather and manipulate data for detailed analysis.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Communication
- Collaborate closely with Sr. Systems Admin Specialists and Supervisors to understand operational challenges and provide relevant analytical support.
- Work with other technical teams (e.g., Security, Architecture, Development, Database Administration) by sharing operational intelligence and contributing data insights to their initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2-3 years of experience in system administration, infrastructure support, or IT operations.
- Strong knowledge of Windows/Linux server environments, virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
- Experience with backup solutions, monitoring tools, and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- Understanding of security principles, system hardening, and IT compliance standards.
