Role Overview:
QST is seeking a System and Network Administrator to join our global IT team. This is a hands-on role combining Linux system administration, Windows administration, networking, infrastructure operations, and internal support responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work in a high-availability trading environment and will be involved in maintaining, upgrading, and supporting critical infrastructure across multiple global locations. This role requires an individual who is comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex technical issues, participating in infrastructure projects, and supporting production systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Linux and Windows Administration
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers, primarily Oracle Linux.
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade operating systems and infrastructure services.
- Perform kernel upgrades, system hardening, and security patch management.
- Manage Windows desktop and workstation deployments, imaging, patching, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor system performance and proactively address operational issues.
- Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
Network Administration
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot networking infrastructure.
- Work with routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and related technologies.
- Configure and maintain VPN solutions including IPsec, WireGuard, and OpenVPN.
- Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking issues.
- Assist with routing, switching, VLANs, firewall policies, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Participate in network migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and datacenter projects.
- Experience with PicOS is considered a bonus but not mandatory.
Infrastructure Operations
- Participate in server migrations, infrastructure deployments, and maintenance activities.
- Perform scheduled operating system upgrades and infrastructure patching.
- Assist with datacenter and cloud-related operational tasks.
- Support infrastructure automation and operational improvements where applicable.
Internal Support
- Provide technical support for employees and internal systems.
- Troubleshoot workstation, application, connectivity, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Escalate issues appropriately and work closely with other IT teams when necessary.
- Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.
Weekend and After-Hours Coverage (Mandatory)
- This position includes participation in a structured weekend support rotation.
- Candidates must be comfortable and willing to provide weekend coverage on a regular basis, typically 2 weekends per month as the primary support engineer.
- Additional weekend coverage may occasionally be required to provide backup for other team members.
- Weekend coverage generally represents approximately 2–3 weekends per month.
Weekend duties include:
- Internal IT support.
- Customer Support monitoring and escalation.
- Infrastructure monitoring and incident response.
- Planned maintenance activities.
- Server patching and kernel upgrades.
- Network maintenance.
- System testing and validation after maintenance activities.
- Assistance with infrastructure migrations and project work.
Candidates who are not comfortable participating in regular weekend rotations should not apply.
Role Requirements:
- Fluent in English - both written and spoken.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration.
- Experience administering Linux environments.
- Good experience supporting Windows workstations and users.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including:
oTCP vs UDP
oRouting and switching concepts
oVLANs
oDNS
oDHCP
oVPN technologies
oFirewall concepts
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience with VPN technologies such as WireGuard, IPsec, and OpenVPN.
- Ability to troubleshoot independently and work with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable working in production and high-availability environments.
- Willingness to participate in after-hours maintenance and weekend support rotations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Oracle Linux.
- Experience with OPNsense, pfSense, or enterprise firewalls.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
- Experience with virtualization platforms.
- Experience with monitoring systems.
- Experience with automation and scripting.
- Experience with PicOS networking environments is a bonus but not mandatory.
