System Administrator

We are looking for a technically strong System Administrator to own and govern our cloud and infrastructure services across hybrid environments. While day-to-day operations and administration may be performed by Managed Service Providers (MSPs), this role retains accountability for the overall availability, security, performance, compliance, and continual improvement of the services under their care.

The role serves as the organization's technical steward for infrastructure platforms, ensuring that service providers deliver in accordance with operational standards, service levels, and business requirements. This individual must possess hands-on administration experience and a deep understanding of cloud and infrastructure technologies to effectively challenge recommendations, validate solutions, oversee implementations, and drive service excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

• Own the operational health, security, and performance of cloud and infrastructure services.
• Govern and manage MSPs responsible for day-to-day administration and support.
• Review and approve infrastructure changes, designs, implementation plans, and operational procedures.
• Drive incident, problem, capacity, availability, and disaster recovery management activities.
• Ensure compliance with security, patching, backup, and operational standards.
• Lead service improvement, automation, optimization, and modernization initiatives.
• Support infrastructure transformation and cloud adoption programs.
• Manage operational risks and technology lifecycle requirements.

WHAT IS THE JOB LIKE

• You are accountable for infrastructure services even when operational administration is outsourced to an MSP.
• You oversee hybrid environments spanning cloud platforms, servers, virtualization, and core infrastructure services.
• You review technical designs, implementation plans, and operational recommendations from service providers.
• You ensure MSP activities align with operational standards, security requirements, and business objectives.
• You participate in major incident reviews, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives.
• You balance operational stability with modernization, automation, and cloud transformation efforts.
• You collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, application, and vendor teams to deliver reliable IT services.
• You provide technical leadership, governance, and oversight while maintaining accountability for service outcomes.

WHO ARE YOU

• You have strong hands-on experience in systems administration, cloud infrastructure, and hybrid IT environments.
• You possess solid knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, virtualization, backup, and monitoring technologies.
• You understand how to administer infrastructure platforms yourself, even if an MSP performs the day-to-day operational work.
• You can confidently challenge vendor recommendations, review technical solutions, and validate implementation approaches.
• You have experience working with or managing Managed Service Providers.
• You are knowledgeable in infrastructure operations, troubleshooting, and service management practices.
• You have strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• You are proactive, accountable, and committed to delivering secure, reliable, and high-performing infrastructure services.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Infrastructure Engineering, or Cloud Operations.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V.
• Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-104 preferred).
• ITIL Foundation certification is an advantage.
