Job Description:
The Sustainability Manager leads the planning, implementation, and compliance of sustainability initiatives for affordable housing developments, focusing on solar PV systems, energy efficiency, green building integration, and sustainable housing innovation. The role oversees the full lifecycle of sustainability projects—from feasibility studies and design coordination to permitting, installation, energization, turnover, and performance monitoring—while coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders such as contractors, utility providers, LGUs, suppliers, consultants, and homeowners. The position also develops scalable, cost-efficient sustainability strategies that enhance environmental performance, operational efficiency, and long-term community value.
Responsibilities:
1. Solar PV Project Management
- Lead the end-to-end execution of solar PV systems for affordable housing developments inclusive of feasibility assessments including load analysis, roof suitability, ROI/payback evaluation, and energy generation studies.
- Coordinate system design, engineering reviews, and technical approvals with consultants and suppliers.
- Oversee procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and energization of solar systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical, structural, safety, and utility interconnection standards.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and implementation milestones.
- Develop standardized solar deployment processes across housing projects.
- Track solar system performance, downtime, maintenance schedules, and energy savings realization.
- Coordinate net-metering applications and utility integration requirements with providers such as Manila Electric Company.
2. Sustainability & Green Building Integration (jointly with the Planning Team)
- Develop and implement sustainability strategies for affordable housing communities.
- Integrate green building principles into architectural and engineering designs.
- Recommend sustainable materials, technologies, and construction methodologies.
- Identify opportunities for:
- passive cooling and ventilation
- water conservation
- rainwater harvesting
- waste management systems
- energy-efficient lighting and appliances
- low-carbon construction approaches
- Collaborate with design teams to improve environmental performance while maintaining affordability targets.
- Establish sustainability standards and technical guidelines for future housing developments.
- Explore certifications and compliance opportunities related to green building standards where commercially viable.
3. Stakeholder Coordination & External Relations
- Serve as primary sustainability focal point for external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with:
- contractors and EPC providers
- utility companies
- LGUs and permitting offices
- suppliers and manufacturers
- consultants and engineers
- homeowners associations and clients
- Facilitate permit applications, inspections, and regulatory approvals.
- Ensure timely submission of documentary and compliance requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships and evaluate contractor performance.
- Conduct technical presentations and sustainability briefings for management and project stakeholders.
4. Innovation & Sustainability Development
- Research emerging sustainability technologies applicable to affordable housing.
- Develop pilot programs and innovation initiatives for low-cost green housing solutions.
- Evaluate new products and systems related to:
- solar technologies
- battery storage
- smart metering
- energy-efficient construction
- sustainable materials
- Recommend scalable innovations with measurable operational and environmental benefits.
- Benchmark against industry best practices and evolving sustainability standards.
5. Compliance, Reporting & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with national and local sustainability, environmental, electrical, and construction regulations.
- Maintain project documentation including:
- permits
- technical drawings
- warranties
- inspection reports
- as-built plans
- sustainability reports
- Prepare management reports on sustainability KPIs, project status, cost savings, and environmental impact.
- Support ESG and corporate sustainability reporting requirements where applicable.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in:
- Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental)
- Architecture
- Sustainability Management
- Renewable Energy
- or related field
Preferred Certifications
- Licensed Engineer or Architect preferred
- Solar PV installation/design certifications preferred
- Green building accreditation preferred (e.g., BERDE, LEED, EDGE)
Experience
- 5–8+ years of experience in:
- solar PV project management
- construction/project management
- sustainability or green building initiatives
- Experience in affordable housing, real estate, or property development preferred.
- Experience coordinating with utility companies, LGUs, and contractors required.
