The Sustainability Data Management Interns will support the SM Sustainability Office Data Management team in organizing, validating, and analyzing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data used for internal reporting, external disclosures, and strategic decision-making. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented student or early-career professional interested in the intersection of data analytics and corporate sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sustainability data collection efforts across portfolio companies and SM Retail, including data quality checks and validation to ensure information is audit-ready
- Support data clean-up of historical sustainability data in accordance with the updated scoping methodology
- Validate data before uploading, ensuring all fields, units, and details are correct and complete
- Upload and organize site- and facility-level data into the SM Sustainability Data tool for each business unit
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of data as reported in the 2025 Sustainability Report, cross-checking figures against source documentation
- Support stakeholder engagement efforts by consolidating and analyzing survey results, summarizing key feedback themes, and feeding results into materiality assessments
- Assist with ad hoc projects and analyses as assigned
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science, Business, Statistics, or any related field
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, formulas, data cleaning)
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks/deadlines
