Job Description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled linguist to create and edit captions and subtitles for a variety of media content. The linguist will be responsible for transcribing, conforming subtitles to client guidelines, and ensuring high-quality outputs. This role requires a strong command of English, familiarity with different accents, and excellent listening and typing skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Timecoding & Formatting: Accurately spot timecodes and format subtitles to optimize the viewing experience.
  • Transcription & Proofreading: Transcribe and proofread English subtitles, ensuring precision in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall context.
  • Quality Control: Review and correct subtitles in accordance with client guidelines and industry standards.
  • Client Requirements Compliance: Maintain compliance with client-specific preferences and project guidelines.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with project managers to implement necessary updates, refine Key Names and Phrases (KNP), and ensure timely delivery of quality files.
  • Technical Proficiency: Utilize subtitling tools and be familiar with various file formats and industry-standard software.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Remain open to flexible schedules and additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in captioning/subtitling
  • Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and proficient in subtitling software.
  • Excellent typing speed and active listening skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Native or near-native fluency in English, with a deep understanding of the subtitling process, linguistic accuracy, and cultural context.
  • A bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Linguistics, Translation, Media Studies, or similar) is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in localization or subtitle creation for diverse media content (e.g., TV shows, movies, video games, etc.).

This is an Independent Contractor position with a three-month contract. While we may consider remote work if you can ensure a secure working environment, we prefer candidates who are based in the same city as our branch to work from the office around twice a week.
