Job Description

Job Title: Structural Steel Estimator

Location: Remote

Start Date: Immediate

Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and quantity take-offs for steel fabrication and installation projects. The role involves interpreting engineering and architectural drawings, using Tekla or similar 3D modeling tools, and collaborating with project teams to ensure precise and competitive bids.

You'll manage estimating data, maintain cost libraries, and support tender submissions from start to finish. The ideal candidate has solid technical knowledge of steel fabrication, strong analytical skills, and experience delivering high-quality estimates within deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for structural steel works using Tekla or similar 3D modeling and estimating tools.
  • Interpret and analyse architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and drafters, to ensure alignment of estimating outputs.
  • Export quantity take-offs and cost estimates to Excel or estimating templates in the required format.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify scope, materials, fabrication requirements, and potential risks.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, cost history, and unit rate libraries.
  • Participate in tender reviews and help prepare final bid submissions.
  • Ensure all estimates are prepared within the required timelines and meet quality standards.
  • Support post-tender activities including clarifications and negotiations, if required.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Drafting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction or structural steel industry, ideally in an estimating or project support role.
  • Proficient in Tekla Structures and/or other estimating and take-off software.
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes and materials.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience in preparing structured cost breakdowns and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working with structural steel estimating for commercial or industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience working with offshore or remote teams is a plus.
  • Understanding of supply chain and procurement for steel and related materials.
