The Assistant Manager - Strategic Sourcing (Raw Materials - Steel) is a commercially-driven professional responsible for securing a stable, cost-effective supply of scrap metal. This role bridges the gap between market sourcing and plant operations, overseeing the end-to-end process from supplier negotiation and logistics to inventory analysis and quality compliance.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic Procurement & Sourcing
- Sourcing: Identify and develop new local scrap supply channels; gain exposure to international sourcing and export sales.
- Negotiation: Secure competitive pricing and favorable commercial terms to increase share of wallet from existing suppliers.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain high-engagement partnerships with key suppliers and industry stakeholders.
2. Logistics & Supply Chain Execution
- Dispatch Coordination: Manage multi-modal logistics including trucks, barges, vessels, and containers.
- Operational Oversight: Supervise loading/discharge operations to ensure timely delivery and adherence to logistics plans.
- Field Inspections: Conduct regular supplier yard visits and participate in quality surveys/inspections to ensure scrap compliance.
3. Market Intelligence & Analysis
- Market Monitoring: Track local and international scrap trends to provide actionable procurement recommendations.
- Data Analysis: Utilize Excel to perform cost-benefit analysis, inventory tracking, and smelting requirement forecasting.
- Operational Synergy: Coordinate with the Meltshop and Scrap Yard to align procurement with real-time production needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Metallurgy/Industrial), Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business/Marketing
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in procurement, logistics, or industrial operations
- Key Competencies: negotiation, persuasion, and relationship-building skills | Proficient in cost analysis, inventory modeling, and market trend forecasting | Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently in industrial environments | Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and general ICT literacy.
