Job Description

The Strategic Partner and Commercial Manager is responsible for overseeing strategic partnerships and ensuring the commercial viability, governance, and value realization of vendor and partner engagements. The role drives contract strategy, commercial negotiations, and performance oversight to ensure that partnerships deliver optimal cost, quality, and operational outcomes aligned with business objectives
This role acts as a key bridge between business units, procurement, finance, and legal teams to structure sustainable commercial models, manage risks, and maximize value from strategic engagements. It also leads initiatives related to vendor transformation, engagement decoupling, and partnership optimization while ensuring contractual compliance and financial discipline.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Vendor Capacity and Commercial Consumption Governance-Vendor resources are aligned with actual business demand and operational priorities. Right-sized vendor capacity supporting operational requirements.

  • Enterprise vendor portfolio view (spend, footprint, concentration-Ability to identify top spend areas, recurring costs, and outliers.

  • Multi-year cost baseline modeling and lock-in risk analysis-Development of reliable cost baselines over multiple years, incorporating OPEX, CAPEX, and anticipated vendor rate changes.

  • Architecture and optionality impact assessment- Works with Enterprise Architecture Lead in the assessment of current and proposed IT/operational architecture against business objectives and long-term strategy..

  • Multi-Year cost baseline model and lock-in risk analysis.-Co-develops with FInance of reliable cost baselines over multiple years, incorporating OPEX, CAPEX, and anticipated vendor rate changes.

  • Transition and Decoupling Management-Supports strategic initiatives involving partner onboarding, transformation, or disengagement.

  • Cross -contract negotiation strategy- Co-Leads with Finance, Legal and Proponents in negotiation alignment on multiple contracts with consistent pricing, service levels, and risk allocation.

  • Clear mapping of vendor services, contracts, and operational coverage across the enterprise.

  • Architecture decisions are aligned with business goals and future scalability needs.

  • Development of reliable cost baselines over multiple years, incorporating OPEX, CAPEX, and anticipated vendor rate changes.

  • Successful Engagement Transitions

  • Maximized value from vendor relationships and reduced total cost across contract and simplified contract management and improved enforceability.

KPI

  • Vendor Capacity Utilization :% of Vendor Capacity Utilized vs. Planned/Allocated. Target TBD

  • Total Vendor Spend Visibility: % of Total Vendor Spend Tracked Across the Enterprise. Target : 100% of spend captured in portfolio reporting

  • Vendor Footprint Coverage: % of Vendor Contracts and Services Mapped Across Business Units Target: 100% of identified strategic and critical vendors mapped for footprint

  • Milestone Adherence:% of Milestones Achieved on Schedule Target: Milestone tracking Vs. approved transition plan

  • Contract Harmonization: % of Related Contracts Standardized Across Key Terms (SLA, Payment, Risk). Target: 100% of top identified contracts harmonized annually.

  • Risk Exposure Reduction: % Reduction in Commercial / Operational / Lock-In Risk Across Contracts Target: Achieve X% reduction in high-risk clauses or dependencies.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strategic planning, commercial acumen, decision-making

  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders in providing expert contract management advice to enable achievement of desired outcomes. Includes, contract drafting/review, negotiation, cross-contract strategy

  • Vendor relationship management

  • Ability to synthesize data from contracts, vendor portfolios, and operational metrics.

  • High level communication skills at all levels(written and verbal), collaboration,Team leadership, adaptability, resilience and continuous learning

  • Ability to identify operational, financial, and contractual risks and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Skilled at persuasive negotiation, conflict resolution, and presenting complex information clearly.

HIRING REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or related field.

  • 5-10+ years of experience in IT strategy, Project Management ,transformation, enterprise architecture, program leadership, or comparable roles.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex IT initiatives from strategic framing through execution mobilization and governance.

  • Strong exposure to enterprise IT environments, including architecture, platforms, vendor ecosystems, and large-scale delivery.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate across multiple teams without formal line authority.

  • Knowledgeable on process best practices and process improvement principles

  • With management experience, leading a team

  • Ability to multitask a number of projects at any given time

  • A history of strong relationships building, both internal and external to the organization

  • Knowledge of the procurement and partner management cycle

  • Devising a Vendor Risk Management capability

  • Skilled in Project Management

  • Strong commercial awareness

  • Demonstrated experience in a contract management (or equivalent) role and a good working knowledge of contract management processes and techniques.
