Job Description

Are you the kind of person with a strong understanding of accounting systems and a genuine passion for working with numbers Do you thrive on being the steady, meticulous operational core of a finance team, coding transactions, maintaining journal entries, and running reports with high accuracy If you have a solid grasp of QuickBooks, a strong desire to learn nonprofit accounting, and the discipline to handle essential transactional work while supporting high-level strategy, this role could be the perfect fit for you.

Our Story Starts with People Like You

The two founders, best friends, were running businesses that needed great talent fast. So, they started building remote teams across countries like the Philippines, Colombia, and India. Not only did it work, it thrived. They realized that talent isn't limited by geography. With today's technology and high-speed internet, we're able to build high-performing global teams that support businesses across the U.S. So ClearDesk was born.

Today, ClearDesk helps U.S. businesses grow by building world-class remote teams. We don't just connect talent; we manage the entire experience, from recruiting to retention. And while we help clients thrive, we also stay deeply committed to helping our remote team members build real, lasting careers that support their lives and their families.

That's where you come in.

The Role: Staff Accountant

Imagine being the daily guardian of our financial records, turning raw data into accurate, reliable reports for leadership. Every journal entry you execute, every transaction you code, and every report you generate directly supports our organization's core mission and fiscal health. You're not just inputting numbers. You are offloading core transactional accounting to free up time for high-level financial analysis by our Finance Director. Working closely with the finance team and accountant, you will receive ongoing training and mentorship in nonprofit accounting—learning how financial statements are identified, how monies are billed and allocated, and how grant tracking works in practice. You bring a strong foundational knowledge of accounting, hands-on experience navigating QuickBooks, and an eager willingness to learn nonprofit principles like statements of financial position, unearned revenues, and receivables. Whether allocating program costs across distinct grant spaces or running detailed reporting for our Grants Manager, you bring accuracy, curiosity, and thorough follow-through to everything you touch.

What Your Days Might Look Like:

  • Transactional Accounting: Perform daily and monthly journal entries in QuickBooks; code transactions accurately to the correct class and chart of accounts.
  • Grant & Cost Allocation: Assist the Finance Director with allocating program costs to different grant spaces; support the team in reading, understanding, and executing grant billing and allocation procedures.
  • Reporting & Data Extraction: Run standard financial reports and pull custom datasets as needed for the Grants Manager and Finance Accountant.
  • Nonprofit Learning & Application: Study and apply nonprofit accounting differences, focusing on statements of financial position, receivables, unearned revenues, and proper fund accounting.
  • Financial Operations & Capacity Building: Handle regular transactional offloading to free up bandwidth for the Finance Director's high-level financial analysis and planning.
  • Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Work directly alongside the finance accountant and finance team, actively participating in mentorship opportunities and technical accounting training.

Who We Think Will Thrive in This Role:

  • You have a strong foundational understanding of accounting principles and a genuine interest in working with numbers.
  • You have hands-on experience using QuickBooks and are comfortable navigating the platform.
  • You can perform core technical accounting tasks, including journal entries, transaction coding, and report generation.
  • You are eager to learn nonprofit accounting principles and terminology (e.g., statement of financial position, receivables, unearned revenues).
  • You have high attention to detail and enjoy keeping financial records organized and balanced.
  • You are a clear communicator who works well under guidance and mentorship.
  • You're reliable, adaptable, and able to manage shifting priorities in a remote work environment
  • You are willing to work in a US time zone schedule.
  • You can secure the required technical setup, including:
  • At least a 720p HD webcam
  • A noise-canceling headset
  • A primary internet connection of at least 25 Mbps
  • A backup laptop, backup internet device, and backup power source
  • A main computer with at least Intel Core i5 (or equivalent) and 8 GB RAM
  • A backup computer with at least Intel Core i3 and 4 GB RAM
