Job Summary

The Senior Underwriter – Engineering is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting engineering insurance risks in accordance with the company's underwriting guidelines and risk appetite. The role manages complex and high-value engineering accounts, develops appropriate coverage and pricing, supports reinsurance activities, and provides technical guidance to junior underwriters while ensuring a profitable and sustainable underwriting portfolio.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate and assess new and renewal Engineering insurance accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and delegated authority.
  • Analyze submissions and determine appropriate coverage, pricing, terms, and conditions based on technical risk assessment.
  • Underwrite complex engineering risks while maintaining portfolio profitability and sound risk selection.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Brokers, Agents, and other distribution partners to develop tailored insurance solutions that meet client requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company underwriting policies, regulatory requirements, and reinsurance arrangements.
  • Coordinate facultative reinsurance placements and support treaty renewal activities when necessary.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, claims trends, and loss ratios to recommend appropriate underwriting actions.
  • Review policy wordings, endorsements, and coverage to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to Junior Underwriters to support capability development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare underwriting reports, portfolio analyses, and recommendations to support business decisions.
  • Participate in underwriting process improvements and other special projects assigned by management.

What You Need to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or any related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant underwriting experience, preferably in Engineering, Property, Commercial, or Non-Life Insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment, underwriting principles, policy wording, coverage analysis, and insurance pricing.
  • Experience in engineering or commercial insurance underwriting is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting or policy administration systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Professional, customer-focused, and committed to delivering high-quality underwriting service.
