Core job functions:
Lab Operations & Team Leadership
Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of failure analysis (FA) and reliability engineers/technicians.
Workflow Prioritization: Oversee daily lab operations, prioritizing workloads to meet quick-turn QA/QC and production deadlines.
Budget & Resource Planning: Manage lab budgets, forecast staffing needs, and ensure the lab is equipped with modern testing tools (e.g., SAM, X-Ray)
Failure Analysis & Diagnostics
Root Cause Determination: Direct the investigation of product or field failures down to the physical package and die/component levels.
Advanced Testing: Guide the team in executing non-destructive (e.g., X-Ray, CSAM, acoustic microscopy) and destructive (e.g., decapsulation, cross-sectioning) analytical techniques.
Fault Isolation: Supervise electrical fault isolation and bench-level testing to reproduce failure mechanisms.
Reliability & Qualification Testing
Test Design: Develop and implement comprehensive reliability test plans mapped to industry standards
Risk Assessment: Assess and mitigate reliability risks throughout the product lifecycle, from early prototype development to high-volume manufacturing.
Data Analysis: Review statistical data from reliability tests to spot degradation trends and predict asset lifespans.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting
Corrective Actions: Partner with Customer Account Engineering, Design, and Manufacturing to translate FA findings into actionable design changes or process corrections.
Documentation: Ensure all analytical workflows, hypothesis validations, and root cause categorizations are thoroughly documented and archived.
Customer & Stakeholder Interfacing: Act as the subject matter expert for reliability topics, presenting data to technical and non-technical audiences, as well as handling customer PCN (Process Change Notification) inquiries.
