The Opportunity
We're hiring a remote SolidWorks Engineering & CNC Programming Specialist to own both the product drawing function and the CNC programming workflow for a US-based manufacturer of commercial casegoods and fixtures.
This is not a drafter or a machine operator role. It's a dual-capability engineering execution role for someone with deep SolidWorks expertise and hands-on CNC programming experience. You'll manage the full product drawing database, produce accurate production drawings, develop and optimize CNC programs, and work directly with manufacturing, operations, and sales support to keep product development and production moving.
You'll operate as an embedded member of the client's engineering team, with full support from Kayana's operations layer behind you. If controlled drawings, well-tuned CNC programs, and a reporting workflow that just runs are your craft, keep reading.
What You'll Do
Drawing Database Management & Control
- Own the database for all product drawings as the formal control point for additions and changes
- Set up and maintain an organized file system for all production drawings
- Develop methods for monitoring drawing projects and reporting status to operations
- Examine drawing details (dimensions, angles, allowances, shop notes) for errors, then correct and resubmit as needed
Production Drawing Creation
- Create detailed multi-view detail and assembly drawings of parts and products in SolidWorks
- Apply strong millwork and cabinetry knowledge to produce drawings manufacturing can build from directly
- Visually verify component designs against drawings for accuracy of fit
- Create and revise drawings in response to product improvements and new product development
- Communicate with tooling vendors, engineering vendors, and manufacturing on new and revised products
CNC Programming & Optimization
- Develop and refine CNC programs to reduce cycle times and improve production efficiency
- Use SolidWorks-based CAM nesting to extract 2D geometry from 3D assemblies for CNC production
- Optimize cutting paths, tool selection, and machining sequences in Router Sim or equivalent software
- Catch part geometry, tool selection, and machining errors before they reach the floor
- Read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and blueprints to verify programming accuracy
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with manufacturing, operations, and sales support to translate product requirements into accurate drawings and programs
- Collaborate with the production team for seamless workflow and technical accuracy
- Maintain clear communication on project and drawing status across engineering, manufacturing, and sales support
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years of SolidWorks experience
- 3+ years designing millwork, cabinetry, or commercial casegoods/fixtures
- Hands-on CNC programming experience (18+ months minimum)
- Proficiency in Router Sim or equivalent CAM nesting software
- AutoCAD 2D proficiency
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and blueprints
- Experience troubleshooting geometry, tooling, and machining issues before production
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Clear, professional communication across engineering, manufacturing, and operations
- Self-starter mentality with strong ownership in a remote, feedback-heavy environment
Helpful, not required:
- Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification
- Experience with parametric and formula-driven modeling
- Background in high-volume production manufacturing environments
- Prior experience working remotely with US-based engineering and manufacturing teams
