Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled
Signage Technical Designer to support the complete pre-production process for signage projects. This role is responsible for creating accurate shop drawings and architectural proofs, preparing production-ready files, and coordinating closely with production, project management, and sales teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong
Adobe Illustrator expertise with practical knowledge of
signage manufacturing, materials, fabrication methods, and pre-press production. You should be able to translate design concepts into technically accurate files that are ready for manufacturing while identifying opportunities to maintain quality and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Drawings & Pre-Press
- Create detailed shop drawings and architectural proofs using Adobe Illustrator based on project briefs and design requirements.
- Prepare complete pre-press files and production-ready artwork.
- Ensure all files meet technical and manufacturing specifications before production.
- Apply design modifications provided by the Design Manager while maintaining file accuracy and consistency.
Design & File Management
- Manage revisions, artwork updates, and technical design changes throughout the pre-production process.
- Maintain organized and accurate pre-press and production files.
- Ensure the latest approved artwork is used for manufacturing.
- Review designs for technical feasibility and production requirements.
Production Coordination
- Communicate directly with the production team regarding artwork and file requirements.
- Respond to technical queries and resolve production-related file issues.
- Discuss appropriate manufacturing and fabrication methods with the production team.
- Ensure all artwork and documentation are complete and production-ready before handover.
Cost & Timeline Impact
- Identify design changes that may affect project costs, materials, fabrication requirements, or delivery timelines.
- Clearly communicate potential cost and lead-time impacts to relevant teams.
- Recommend practical and cost-effective fabrication solutions without compromising design quality or production standards.
Color & Quality Control
- Perform accurate color matching using Pantone color systems.
- Review artwork and production files for accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Ensure designs meet required specifications and manufacturing standards.
Job Specifications & Documentation
- Prepare clear and detailed job sheets, production specifications, and installation information for sign makers and installers.
- Ensure production teams have all necessary technical information to execute the project correctly.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Project Managers, Sales, Design, and Production teams to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Provide technical input during project discussions when required.
- Proactively flag potential production issues and recommend solutions.
RequirementsRequirements & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator and relevant Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Strong understanding of signage production, fabrication, and installation processes.
- Knowledge of signage materials, manufacturing techniques, and pre-press requirements.
- Experience creating technical drawings, shop drawings, or architectural proofs.
- Knowledge of Pantone color matching and production color specifications.
- Ability to prepare accurate, production-ready artwork and technical documentation.
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain technical design decisions and project requirements.
- Comfortable communicating directly with production teams and resolving technical issues.
- Able to collaborate effectively with Design, Sales, Project Management, and Production teams.
