About the Role
In this role, you will play a key part in turning design intent and project requirements into precise, buildable shop drawings that directly support successful fabrication and installation of commercial cabinet and millwork projects. Your work ensures seamless coordination between estimating, engineering, and production teams, helping projects move efficiently from approval to manufacturing.
Your mission is to deliver accurate, production-ready drawings that reduce errors, prevent rework, and support smooth shop operations. This role is critical in maintaining quality, efficiency, and consistency across every stage of the production process, ultimately contributing to the company's reputation for craftsmanship and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed, buildable shop drawings for commercial cabinet, casework, countertop, fixture, and architectural millwork projects.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, elevations, sections, finish schedules, and submittal requirements.
- Define and ensure completeness of dimensions, materials, hardware, finishes, edge details, reveals, clearances, and construction methods.
- Ensure drawings align with contract documents, approved submittals, project scope, and drafting standards.
- Revise drawings based on feedback from architects, general contractors, project managers, and production teams.
- Maintain consistent drafting standards, including title blocks, templates, symbols, callouts, and detail libraries.
- Support CNC and production-ready workflows to ensure smooth transition from design to manufacturing.
- Manage drafting tasks through internal systems, including status updates, priorities, and documentation of progress.
- Prioritize work based on production schedules, approval deadlines, and project urgency.
- Maintain visibility of drawing status, outstanding questions, approvals, and revision cycles.
- Identify missing dimensions, conflicting details, and constructability issues before production.
- Escalate missing information, unclear scope, or schedule risks early to prevent delays.
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and production teams to resolve technical issues.
- Prevent rework by ensuring drawings are accurate, complete, and production-ready.
- Follow established drafting standards, templates, and detailing conventions consistently.
- Support improvements to drafting processes, standards, and reusable drawing components.
- Document recurring issues and recommend process or efficiency improvements.
- Communicate clearly and professionally regarding questions, risks, and design clarifications.
- Support project managers during drawing reviews and client coordination when needed.
- Represent the drafting team with accuracy, attention to detail, and professional communication.
Competencies and Qualifications
Must-Have
- Minimum 3+ years of drafting experience
- Experience creating shop drawings
- Experience coordinating drawings for US-based companies
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and design tools
- Ability to read and understand construction blueprints and specifications
- Exceptional attention to detail; ability to catch errors and inconsistencies
- Ability to work with design software and VPN systems
Nice-to-Have
- Shop drawing experience (cabinet, casework, or millwork)
- SketchUp proficiency
- Background in cabinet and millwork construction methods
- Ability to coordinate drawings with US-based company standards
- Background and experience with cabinet and millwork construction methods
- Prior shop drawing experience in cabinet or casework manufacturing
