Role Overview
As a Senior Wayfinding Designer, you will lead the development of wayfinding strategies and design solutions for luxury hotels, mixed-use developments, and large precincts. You will be responsible for translating complex architectural environments into clear, logical, and well-documented wayfinding systems.
Key Responsibilities
Wayfinding Strategy and Planning
• Lead the development of wayfinding strategies from first principles
• Analyze architectural drawings to understand user journeys, movement patterns, and decision points
• Define sign locations, sign types, hierarchies, and messaging logic
• Plot sign locations accurately on architectural plans
• Participate in project kick-off meetings and strategic discussions
Wayfinding Documentation
• Produce complete wayfinding documentation packages, including wayfinding plans, message schedules, sign schedules, and bills of quantities
• Establish sign numbering systems and clear documentation logic
• Prepare final documentation packs suitable for client issue, tender, and construction
Design and Concept Development
• Develop signage and wayfinding concepts aligned with brand and architecture
• Create 1–3 strong concept options for internal review
• Design sign families and elements based on approved schedules
• Prepare polished PDF presentation decks for internal and client review
Design Development and Presentation
• Clean and extract architectural plans and elevations for presentations
• Prepare clear diagrams, elevations, and visuals that explain wayfinding intent
• Maintain consistent presentation and documentation standards
Working Style and Project Management
• Work independently with accountability and ownership
• Collaborate openly with a Sydney-based design team
• Manage multiple projects across different phases at the same time
Required Experience and Skills
• Minimum of 5 years professional wayfinding design experience
• Strong background in hospitality, mixed-use, retail, and office environments
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Strong strategic thinking and understanding of user movement through space
Technical Requirements
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
• AutoCAD experience is required
• Revit or BIM knowledge is an advantage
• Ability to work confidently across 2D and 3D design workflows
