About the Role

We are seeking a highly accurate, motivated, and proactive Senior US General Accountant to maintain financial records, optimize accounting processes, and manage core general ledger tasks.

This role serves as a strategic addition to a growing department. Following an internal restructuring, the new hire will absorb day-to-day general accounting tasks, allowing the current leadership to fully transition into the Controller position. The ultimate objective is to shed a small company mindset, move toward highly standardized workflows, and dramatically compress the current month-end close cycle.

Work hours: Mondays - Fridays; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM US Eastern Time (EST)

Work set-up: Remote

What you'll do

  • Financial Reporting & Month-End Close: Maintain general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, complete detailed analyses, and take immediate ownership of balancing complex account reconciliations.
  • Process Improvement & Automation: Step back from purely execution-focused habits to critically analyze accounting workflows. Actively suggest and implement standardized improvements to move the company away from manual processes.
  • Compliance & Asset Management: Oversee fixed asset accounts, maintain thorough documentation for employee credit card purchasing, and monitor corporate regulatory items including Annual Reports and Contractor Licenses.
  • Departmental Support Collaboration: Function as an internal backup and support ecosystem for the accounting team. During periods of operational downtime, proactively chip in to assist colleagues handling Payroll and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Audit Preparation: Maintain neat documentation and clear transaction mapping to provide comprehensive support for annual external audits and periodic internal assessments.

What You Bring

  • Core Technical Knowledge: Proven background working with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) is strictly required.
  • Experience & Sourcing Flexibility: While 2+ years of US client support is standard, attitude, sharp business acumen, and coachability outweigh rigid tenure requirements.
  • Highly motivated candidates with fewer years of US experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Software Proficiency (Flexible):
  • Advanced expertise in MS Excel remains essential
  • General proficiency with multiple modern ERP platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Accounting Seed, PeachTree) is highly acceptable, provided you can learn new systems quickly.
  • Exposure to modern payroll software like Paylocity is a definitive plus.
  • Experience with Sage 100 or Sage FAS is a plus
  • Industry Frameworks: Familiarity with job costing and the percentage-of-completion accounting method used in construction frameworks is preferred but not required.
  • Behavioral Trait (Non-Negotiable): A highly proactive, self-starting attitude. Candidates who sit back and passively wait for strict direction will not align with this team's growth mindset.
  • Availability Note: Candidates immediately available to start work will be prioritized, but employed individuals rendering a standard 30-day notice period will be fully evaluated.
