Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This role is for a senior tax accountant that will assist a Tax Consultant to complete the income tax returns for our real estate joint ventures and GP co-investment entities, complete quarterly REIT questionnaires, maintain compliance with local registration and tax requirements, and assist in transactions and other special projects, among other tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for preparing information sent to external CPAs in order to complete tax returns for real estate joint venture and GP co-investment entities. Information includes trial balances, financial statements, fixed asset schedules, depreciation reports, capital activity reports, legal documents, general ledger data, etc.
  • Review draft version of tax returns and workpapers and manage the timeline for tax return delivery.
  • Compile GAAP-to-tax journal entries for accounting team to convert books and records from GAAP basis to tax basis.
  • Prepare calculations and file tax returns for local jurisdictions (including but not limited to San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Alameda, Seattle) including gross receipts, commercial vacancy, parking, etc. Coordinate with accounting team to ensure all required tax payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all federal and state extensions and estimated payments are filed/paid timely.
  • Prepare the quarterly REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) questionnaires to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations.
  • Assist with tax returns for the CEO and family office entities, including organizing tax information sent to CPA and reviewing individual tax returns, etc.
  • Manage and respond to federal and state tax notices and inquiries.
  • Assist in ad hoc tax calculations related to ongoing transactions and special projects.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Excel, MS Word, and other Microsoft products
  • Strong attention to detail; excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Service- and solution-oriented

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-4 years prior real estate partnership tax experience
  • Bachelors degree in business administration, tax, or accounting
