Job Description

About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Professional Services team.

This is a senior, client-facing role. You will lead the design and delivery of cloud platforms for enterprise clients, set the technical direction on engagements, and bring more junior engineers along with you. You will work where others have failed — bringing not just technical depth, but the judgement, communication, and consulting craft to land complex change in real organisations.

This role is designed for impact, and we believe our best work happens when we connect. While we operate a flexible model, we expect you to spend time on site (at our offices or a client location) for collaboration sessions, customer meetings, and internal workshops.

What You Will Do

Lead cloud architecture and delivery. Own the design of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective cloud platforms on Google Cloud and adjacent technologies. Define target-state architectures, make and defend trade-offs, and turn ambiguous business requirements into clear technical direction.

Build and operate at scale. Implement infrastructure as code with Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager, automate the deployment and management of cloud environments, and bake in fault tolerance, redundancy, and disaster recovery from day one. Optimise cost through usage analysis, rightsizing, and committed-use planning.

Set the engineering standard. Establish and uphold platform standards for IaC, CI/CD, security, observability, and reliability across engagements. Drive post-incident reviews, codify lessons learned, and raise the bar on what good looks like.

Engage clients as a trusted adviser. Run discovery workshops, present architectures to both technical and executive audiences, challenge requirements where needed, and translate business problems into platform decisions. Support pre-sales activity including scoping, estimation, and proposal shaping.

Embed security and compliance. Implement and maintain controls that protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of client infrastructure and data. Respond to incidents and vulnerabilities, run regular assessments, and ensure alignment with standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS where they apply.

Operate and improve in production. Monitor cloud infrastructure for performance, availability, and security using tools such as Cloud Operations Suite or Prometheus. Lead root cause analysis on complex incidents and translate findings into durable preventive measures.

Develop the people around you. Mentor and coach mid-level and graduate engineers, lead design and code reviews, and contribute to hiring through technical interviews. Share knowledge internally and, where appropriate, externally through writing, talks, and certifications.

Requirements

What Success Looks Like

Experience Required

  • 5+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure, including at least 3 years on GCP, AWS, or Azure (GCP strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrable track record across multiple complex engagements, ideally in a consulting, professional services, or platform-team context
Technical Depth (Essential)

  • Deep hands-on experience with a major cloud provider, including compute (GCE/EC2/AVM), container orchestration (GKE/EKS/AKS), networking, IAM, and CI/CD primitives such as Cloud Build
  • Strong infrastructure automation skills with Terraform. Additional exposure to other IaC tooling would be nice to have e.g. AWS CDK, Azure ARM and Bicep, OpenTofu, Pulumi, CDKTF
  • Containerisation with Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes in production environments. Familiarity with Helm and Kustomize would also be beneficial
  • Confident scripting and tooling in Python, Go, Bash, or equivalent
  • Solid grounding in cloud networking, identity, security, and Linux fundamentals
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on complex, cross-system issues
  • Hold, or be actively working towards, professional Google Cloud certification
  • Experienced in configuring base operating systems (RHEL, Windows Server, Ubuntu) in an enterprise production setting (preferably 3 years or more). Ideally using configuration management tooling (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
Senior Capabilities (Essential)

  • Architectural ownership. Able to lead the design of complex platforms end to end, not just implement against a spec
  • Client engagement. Comfortable running workshops, presenting to senior stakeholders, and building trusted-adviser relationships with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Consulting craft. Strong at scoping and estimating work, navigating ambiguous requirements, and supporting pre-sales when needed
  • Mentorship. Track record of coaching more junior engineers and lifting the capability of the team around you
  • Judgement under uncertainty. Able to operate with minimal direction on high-stakes work, make sound calls under pressure, and know when to escalate
  • Communication. Be a clear written and verbal communicator across audiences, from engineers to executives
Desirable

  • Background in highly regulated industries (e.g. finance, healthcare, public sector)
  • Experience contributing to thought leadership — talks, writing, open-source contributions, or partner-track activity
  • Experience supporting hiring and capability development at a team or practice level
  • Having a current Google Cloud Professional qualification would be advantageous

Benefits

We believe in supporting our team members both professionally and personally. Here's how we invest in you:
