Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Coordinate the activities of the monthly payroll accounts closure on a timely manner and make sure the payroll accounting files are posted as scheduled.
- Support country offices in the reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Act as point of contact for matters related to payroll accounting queries in coordination with the relevant payroll operational desks.
- Coordinate with the FAD to ensure correct mapping of payroll elements to the general ledger.
- Monitor clearing of internal payroll suspense accounts (salary hold, salary advance, administrative salary advance, et. al.) in coordination with relevant units.
- Liaise with the PULSE Team and make sure that staff salary expense accounts are posted correctly and completely; and reconciling with PPM.
- Liaise with Treasury to make sure that the correct source banks are accurately mapped and updated in the payroll .
- Stay abreast of the relevant policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing payroll and ensure compliance with them.
- Identify best practices on payroll operations prevailing within the UN system or related organizations and recommend them, as applicable.
- Update, develop work instructions, SOPs for the unit in coordination with the team leaders.
- Update, develop new reports to aid in the accounting-related activities of the Unit.
- Liaise with country offices for audit-related activities
- Provide payroll accounting reports to requesting units within the specified timeframe.
- Perform any other duties as necessary.
IV. Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Completed university degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 4 years of relevant work experience; or
- High-school diploma with 7 years of relevant work experience.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) an advantage.
Experience
- Experience in direct payroll functions, accounting or auditing, preferably in a corporate payroll operation with knowledge of banking and accounting systems, generally accepted accounting principles, business risk controls;
- Experience with SAP/Oracle HR and payroll system and applications, an advantage.
SKILLS
- Thorough working knowledge of payroll systems and procedures, salary calculations and accounting made through payroll systems;
- IT-ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Functional Knowledge an advantage;
- High level of computer literacy.
