Summary

The primary objective of the Senior Medical Editor is to provide a full range of editorial services on all projects and develop both derivative and original content for range of medical communication materials

Essential Functions

  • Editorial: Provides editorial review for all designated projects, including editing, rewriting, fact checking, annotating, and proofreading as needed
  • Takes the lead on assigned brand/s (ie, assumes the role of a brand expert) by ensuring the organization, use, and dissemination of the latest product labeling documents, style sheets, and other brand-specific communication directions
  • Takes an active role in evolving editorial systems and processes to continuously improve efficiency and quality standards. Assists in developing department best practices
  • Ensures correct grammar, spelling, usage, and adherence to AMA style, brand, and agency style sheets
  • Edits all types of digital and print projects, including sales aids, sell sheets, emails, websites, etc, with a vision for verifying scientific accuracy, audience appropriateness, scientific tone, and medical writing style, while in keeping with project goals
  • Provides the following types of editorial reviews: cold read, full read/copyedit, fact check, correction check (check changes), proofread
  • Annotates jobs based on latest client/brand guidelines and requirements
  • Validates permissions required for tables, figures, and charts in assigned projects
  • Organizes and files references for each product
  • Follows proper referencing and citation procedures
  • Uses the latest online systems to submit projects to clients for internal and regulatory review
  • Follows the latest North American and European pharmaceutical market regulatory guidelines
  • Receives and completes training as required for client onboarding/certification

  • Medical writing/copywriting: Develops both derivative and original content for range of medical communication materials
  • Performs medical writing/copywriting (ie, rewrites existing content as requested, updates derivative content as needed, or generates new content as required for all types of digital and print projects, including manuscripts, sales aids, sell sheets, emails, websites, etc, with a vision for verifying scientific accuracy, audience appropriateness, scientific tone, and medical writing style, while in keeping with project goals
  • Searches, appraises, and selects appropriate medical/scientific references to support copy, especially for core product messages and claims
  • Annotates jobs based on the latest client guidelines and requirements
  • Organizes and files references for each product
  • Receives and completes training as required for client onboarding/certification

  • General functions:
  • Completes other tasks that may be assigned from time to time
  • Simultaneously organizes, prioritizes, and maintains workload for several projects
  • Follows project timelines and works closely with project management to assure timelines are being met
  • Follows established agency SOPs and department guidelines to ensure work quality
  • Articulates thoughts and ideas in a logically organized, fluent, and concise manner
  • Shows personal initiative in undertaking assigned projects to assume responsibility for the overall editorial integrity of all assigned pieces
  • Supervises and mentors other department members as requested to cultivate their progress and growth
  • Is able to simultaneously focus on the big picture, as well as details
  • Builds rapport among departments and teams
  • Completes timesheets and leave applications promptly
  • Willing to work overtime as needed

Qualifications

  • College graduate/bachelor's degree (pharmaceutical/medical background a plus)
  • Strong command of the English language with proficiency in correct grammar usage
  • 7+ years experience writing and editing technical content (pharmaceutical/medical content a plus)
  • Attention to detail and organized, reliable, and proactive approach to work are a must
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly responsible, collaborative, and initiative-taking
  • Comfortable with digital mark up and routing platforms
  • Knowledge of Mac/PC environment
  • Applicants must be willing to work onsite in co-working spaces designated by the Company
  • This is a full-time position (40+ working hours per week)
