Senior Medical Coder Orthopedics | Permanent WFH

We are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Coder – Orthopedics to support a high-volume physician practice. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in orthopedic medical coding, hard coding, and AdvancedMD, with the ability to independently review clinical documentation and accurately assign appropriate codes.

This role requires a highly detail-oriented professional who understands complex orthopedic procedures, diagnoses, reimbursement guidelines, and coding compliance. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring claims are accurately coded, compliant, and optimized for timely and maximum reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform accurate hard coding for orthopedic professional claims based on provider documentation.
• Review medical records, operative reports, office notes, procedure notes, and other clinical documentation to determine appropriate diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes according to current coding guidelines.
• Code a wide range of orthopedic services, including surgical procedures, injections, evaluations, diagnostics, and office-based encounters.
• Apply appropriate modifiers, NCCI edits, bundling/unbundling rules, and global surgery guidelines.
• Review documentation for coding accuracy, completeness, and medical necessity.
• Identify coding discrepancies, documentation gaps, and potential compliance concerns.
• Enter, review, and validate coding information within AdvancedMD.
• Maintain established coding accuracy, productivity, and quality standards in a high-volume environment.
• Collaborate with providers, billing teams, and other RCM professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
• Identify coding issues that may contribute to claim denials, underpayments, or reimbursement delays.
• Research and resolve complex coding questions using applicable coding guidelines and payer requirements.
• Stay current with changes to CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, payer policies, and orthopedic coding regulations.
• Assist with coding audits, quality reviews, and process improvement initiatives as needed.
  
  

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional medical coding experience.
• Significant experience in orthopedic medical coding.
• AdvancedMD experience is required.
• Strong hands-on experience with hard coding.
• Extensive knowledge of orthopedic procedures, diagnoses, and documentation.
• Strong understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding systems.
• Proficiency with modifiers, NCCI edits, bundling/unbundling, and global surgical periods.
• Ability to accurately interpret complex clinical documentation and translate it into appropriate codes.
• Strong understanding of physician professional-fee coding and reimbursement principles.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to consistently meet established productivity and accuracy targets.
