JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the preparation of high quality, timely designs, documentation and specifications satisfying both organisation and client expectations, ensuring professional and statutory standards are met.
SCOPE:
- Experienced engineering position with the ability to complete a wide range of specialist assignments of varying complexity without supervision. Responsible for the delivery of technical aspects of large and complex engineering projects. May be required to supervise junior engineers within specialist technical area.
THE ROLE:
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Operations
- Ensure engineering design practices and standards are in accordance with Australian Standards, guides and codes as appropriate, meeting industry best practice.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Fyfe QA system and client QA and safety policies and procedures.
- Piping stress analysis and checking isometrics and piping arrangements.
- Review, prepare and/or modify engineering designs, plans, project specifications, project proposals, scopes of work and project opinion of probable cost.
- Prepare concept, feasibility and FEED documentation and obtain relevant reviews and approvals.
- Prepare and check data sheets for mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, fittings and vessels.
- Attend and contribute to HAZOPs as required.
- Deliver projects on time, to quality standards and budget requirements.
- Appropriate use of the Fyfe Project Tracker System, including management of notes and tasks.
- Continued contribution to the development, implementation and improvement of internal systems.
- Mentoring and training of junior engineers where required.

- Follow WHS policies and procedures and cooperate with measures introduced in the interest of workplace health and safety
- Immediately report any matters which may affect workplace health and safety or may pose a hazard or potential risk to direct manager and the HSEQ team
- Undertake any training provided in relation to WHS
- Develop a safe work environment by controlling, directing and monitoring work practices within area of responsibility
- Ensure all work undertaken in area of responsibility is done within Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation and using safe work practices
- Take reasonable care of your own Work Health & Safety and that of others in the workplace
- Constantly review safety working procedures and practices within area of responsibility
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
Education and Professional Background
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
- CPEng and RPEQ accreditation or currently working towards these (highly regarded).
- Experience in upstream oil and gas projects (highly desirable).
- Strong analytical and technical report writing skills.
- Strong understanding of facilities engineering and the suite of documents required for brownfield upgrades.
- Strong knowledge of ASME, ASTM and API codes for piping design.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of pipe stress analysis.
- Preferably familiar with AS 2885, AS 1210, API 650 and API 579.
- Strong understanding of interdisciplinary interactions and checking workflow, especially with process, structural and E&I teams.
- Experienced in writing installation work packs.
Core Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of ASME, ASTM and API codes for piping design, including AS 2885, AS 1210, API 650 and API 579.
- Proficiency in piping stress analysis and checking of isometrics and piping arrangements.
- Strong understanding of facilities engineering and the suite of documents required for brownfield upgrades.
