Job Description

Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Inc. (FILSCAP Inc.) is seeking a highly qualified and accomplished legal professional to join its Legal Department as Senior Legal Counsel

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will play a critical role in managing the Society's legal affairs, litigation portfolio, regulatory compliance initiatives, and intellectual property enforcement efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and advancement of copyright and related rights within the Philippine music industry. 

Key Responsibilities 

The Senior Legal Counsel shall: 

• Lead, manage, and oversee civil, criminal, administrative, and other legal proceedings involving the Society, particularly matters relating to copyright enforcement, infringement, and collection activities. 

• Coordinate and supervise external legal counsel and collection agencies engaged by the Society. 

• Monitor pending cases and accounts, prepare status reports, and provide strategic recommendations to management. 

• Develop, implement, and maintain legal policies, procedures, and protocols relating to litigation, case management, monitoring, and documentation. 

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Legal Counsels and other legal personnel. 

• Conduct administrative investigations and provide legal guidance on labor and employment matters. 

• Perform corporate housekeeping functions, including the preparation and review of board resolutions, minutes of meetings, corporate documents, and regulatory filings. 

• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts, licenses, and other commercial agreements. 

• Ensure the Society's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, governance standards, and industry requirements. 

• Provide legal advice and strategic counsel to the Board of Trustees, management, committees, and members of the Society. 

• Liaise with government agencies, industry stakeholders, local and international collective management organizations, rights management entities, and international bodies. 

• Represent and advocate for the interests of rightsholders through legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives, including the preparation of position papers and participation in public consultations and hearings. 

Qualifications 

• Member in good standing of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. 

• At least eight (8) years of post-qualification legal experience gained from a reputable law firm or organization. 

• Extensive litigation and dispute resolution experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage a substantial caseload. 

• Strong command of remedial law and court procedures. 

• Proven track record of success in litigation and legal advocacy. 

• Experience in labor and employment law is an advantage. 

• Experience in intellectual property, copyright, media, entertainment, or related fields is preferred but not required. 

• Graduate of a reputable law school with an excellent academic record. 

• Possesses exceptional analytical, legal writing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
