Manulife's Investment Division manages the Company's General Fund onbalance sheet assets (GA) and, through Manulife Investment Management, oversees assets for clients and investment funds across global markets. Manulife Investment Management also provides investment services to affiliated retail clients through the product offerings of Manulife and John Hancock.
The division manages a diversified portfolio that includes public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, timberland, farmland, and asset allocation strategies. It maintains a physical presence in key international financial centers such as Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and various markets throughout Southeast Asia, establishing the Investment Division as a significant global market player.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze annual and interim financial statements for investment funds in accordance with IFRS, NI 81106, and CLHIA G2 guidelines, ensuring completeness and accuracy within tight deadlines.
- Compile and maintain supporting documentation to substantiate financial disclosures and fulfill audit requirements.
- Prepare journal entries with comprehensive qualitative and quantitative support.
- Identify and resolve errors, omissions, and inconsistencies in financial data.
- Stay current with accounting standards and regulatory frameworks including IFRS, IFIC, NI 81106, CLHIA G2, and OSFI requirements.
- Interpret and summarize accounting guidelines to support decisionmaking and ensure compliance.
- Work independently with external auditors on assigned tasks, supporting the audit process and resolving queries efficiently.
- Maintain a strong understanding of control frameworks and associated risks to safeguard data integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct annual reviews and updates of process documentation to reflect evolving practices and regulatory changes.
- Provide recommendations for process and system improvements to drive efficiency and standardization.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in financial reporting for investment division projects, offering insights on accounting implications.
- Contribute to corporatelevel segregated funds reporting by preparing accurate and relevant data and reports.
- Align financial reporting practices with broader organizational goals and strategic objectives.
- Champion a culture of innovation by proposing enhancements to financial reporting processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Think creatively to identify unconventional solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and stakeholder value.
- Challenge legacy practices by proposing forwardthinking alternatives aligned with industry best practices.

Required Qualifications
- Over five years of experience preparing audited financial statements and managing investment fund operations, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements.
- CPA designation, demonstrating a solid foundation in accounting principles and professional standards.
- Strong interest in the investment industry, with a growing understanding of fund structures and market dynamics.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerApps, and various automation tools.
- Familiarity with fund accounting systems such as FundSuite ARC and MPower is a strong asset.
- Proven track record of enhancing operational efficiency and implementing robust financial controls.
- Prior audit experience is an advantage and contributes to a solid compliance and riskmanagement mindset.
