Job Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A will be a key strategic partner to leadership, playing a critical role in driving profitable growth across the company's e-commerce and marketplace channels. This role is ideal for a highly analytical FP&A professional with deep financial fundamentals who thrives in consumer-facing, data-rich environments.
You will lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis, with a strong emphasis on unit economics, channel profitability, and value creation. The ideal candidate can translate complex data into actionable insights, build scalable financial models, and proactively identify opportunities to improve margins, cost efficiency, and long-term enterprise value.
Because the Finance team operates with lean resources, the successful candidate must bring prior FP&A experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) to ensure fluency in business metrics and minimize training time. Emma, the hiring manager, currently manages multiple finance functions and needs an analyst who is confident in offering process improvements and independent analysis without heavy oversight.
Non-negotiable qualifications/requirements
Work Experience
- 5+ years progressive FP&A/financial analysis experience owning planning, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Demonstrated depth in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and executive level reporting.
- Prior experience partnering with cross functional leaders (Marketing, Growth, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain).
- Exposure to consumer businesses with data rich, e commerce/marketplace channels (role focuses on unit economics and channel profitability).
Technical Expertise / Skills
- Advanced Excel (complex modeling; strong query/BI fluency).
- Proficiency with ERP systems, BI tools, and financial reporting platforms.
- Ability to build/refine models for CAC, LTV, AOV, ROAS, TACOS, cohort/channel profitability, and unit economics.
- Strong capability to convert complex datasets into clear, actionable recommendations and dashboarding/KPI tracking.
- Familiarity with DataRails (big plus) or readiness to learn its Excel based query approach quickly.
- CPG FP&A experience strongly preferred to minimize training time and ensure metric fluency.
Education
- Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related required.
Language & Communication
- Strong English proficiency (written and verbal) for execlevel reporting and crossfunctional partnering. (Implied from stakeholder communication requirements.)
Miscellaneous / Role Specific
- SaaS only / pure services backgrounds discouraged.
- Comfort operating in a lean finance team; ability to drive independent analysis and process improvements without heavy oversight
Preferred Certifications
- Direct DTC or CPG experience is highly valued but not strictly required if FP&A fundamentals are strong.
- Backgrounds from manufacturing, shared services, investment (PE/VC focused on CPG), or adjacent industries are welcome if the candidate shows strong analytical rigor and adaptability.
- DataRails direct experience: plus, not mandatory.
- MBA/CPA: preferred, not required.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic FP&A & Business Partnering
- Lead the annual budgeting, reforecasting, and long-range planning processes, ensuring alignment with business strategy and growth objectives.
- Act as a trusted finance partner to cross-functional leaders in Marketing, Growth, Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to senior leadership on profitability, cost structure, investment tradeoffs, and growth opportunities.
E-Commerce & Marketplace Financial Analytics
- Own and analyze key e-commerce and marketplace metrics, including:
- Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)
- Lifetime Value (LTV)
- Average Order Value (AOV)
- Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)
- Total Advertising Cost of Sales (TACOS)
- Cohort and channel-level profitability
- Build and refine models to evaluate unit economics, marketing efficiency, and channel scalability.
- Develop metrics and dashboards to measure cost efficiency and identify areas of improvement supported by rigorous financial analysis.
Financial Reporting & Performance Management
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis, KPI tracking, and management reporting.
- Support month-end close activities and annual audit processes in partnership with Accounting.
- Monitor and analyze gross margin drivers, operating expenses, working capital, and cash flow.
Tools, Systems & Process Improvement
- Leverage advanced Excel-based modeling and BI/query tools to deliver insights.
- Utilize (or quickly learn) DataRails for planning, consolidation, and reporting; prior direct experience is a plus but not required.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting accuracy, and analytical sophistication.
