Job Summary:
The Senior Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the enterprise architecture across business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, and security domains. The role ensures that technology strategy, solution design, and delivery execution are aligned with business objectives, regulatory expectations, operational resilience, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
This role acts as a senior technology advisor to business and IT leadership, providing architectural direction for strategic initiatives, transformation programs, platform modernization, system integration, data strategy, cloud adoption, and enterprise technology governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Strategy and Governance
- Define and maintain the enterprise architecture vision, principles, standards, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps.
- Ensure alignment between business strategy, IT strategy, and technology investments.
- Establish and manage architecture governance processes, including architecture review boards, design approvals, technology standards, and exception management.
- Promote consistent use of architecture frameworks, methods, and documentation standards across projects and technology teams.
- Assess the current-state architecture and define target-state architecture across business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, and security domains.
Solution Architecture and Design Oversight
- Provide architectural leadership for major business and technology initiatives.
- Review and approve solution designs to ensure scalability, resilience, security, performance, maintainability, and compliance.
- Guide project teams in selecting appropriate technologies, integration patterns, data models, cloud services, and application architectures.
- Ensure solutions are designed with appropriate controls for availability, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and operational support.
- Identify architectural risks, technical debt, duplication, and opportunities for simplification or reuse.
Technology Roadmap and Modernization
- Develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with business growth, digital transformation, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.
- Lead architecture planning for core systems, digital platforms, cloud adoption, APIs, data platforms, analytics, automation, and cybersecurity capabilities.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical adoption strategies where business value is clear.
- Support legacy system modernization, application rationalization, platform consolidation, and cost optimization initiatives.
Integration, Data, and Platform Architecture
- Define enterprise integration patterns, API standards, event-driven architecture principles, and system interoperability guidelines.
- Support the development of enterprise data architecture, including data governance, master data, reporting, analytics, and data quality practices.
- Ensure architecture supports reliable end-to-end business processes across internal systems, external partners, vendors, and customer-facing platforms.
- Promote reusable platforms, shared services, and standardized components.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory
- Partner with business leaders, product owners, project managers, security, operations, engineering, data, compliance, risk, and vendor teams.
- Translate business needs into technology strategies, architecture options, and practical delivery guidance.
- Present architecture recommendations, trade-offs, risks, and decisions to senior leadership in a clear and business-focused manner.
- Facilitate alignment across teams where business requirements, technology constraints, cost, risk, and delivery timelines need to be balanced.
Standards, Risk, and Compliance
- Ensure architecture decisions align with internal policies, cybersecurity standards, data privacy requirements, regulatory obligations, and audit expectations.
- Support risk assessments, vendor assessments, and technology due diligence.
- Contribute to policies and standards related to cloud, application development, data management, integration, resilience, and information security.
- Ensure architecture documentation is maintained and available for governance, audit, support, and future project planning.
Leadership and Capability Development
- Mentor solution architects, technical leads, engineers, analysts, and project teams on architecture best practices.
- Promote architecture discipline, design quality, and engineering excellence across the organization.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external technology partners.
- Encourage continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and adoption of modern architecture practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Typically, 10 or more years of experience in technology, with significant experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, application architecture, cloud architecture, or technology leadership.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture domains, including business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, and security architecture.
- Experience defining technology standards, architecture principles, roadmaps, and governance processes.
- Proven experience designing or overseeing complex enterprise systems, digital platforms, integrations, APIs, cloud solutions, and data architectures.
- Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks and methods such as TOGAF, Zachman, ArchiMate, or similar industry practices.
- Practical understanding of cybersecurity, data privacy, operational resilience, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Strong understanding of modern application architecture, including microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, containers, and scalable web/mobile platforms.
- Ability to evaluate technology options and make balanced recommendations based on business value, risk, cost, complexity, and long-term maintainability.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to engage with both senior executives and technical teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- TOGAF, Zachman, ArchiMate, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, ITIL, COBIT, CISSP, CISM, or similar professional certification.
- Master's degree in Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in financial services, insurance, banking, fintech, telecommunications, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with core enterprise platforms such as ERP, CRM, policy administration systems, payment platforms, digital wallets, data warehouses, analytics platforms, or customer-facing digital channels.
- Experience leading architecture for cloud migration, digital transformation, core system modernization, or enterprise integration programs.
- Knowledge of data governance, master data management, data architecture, business intelligence, and analytics platforms.
- Experience with vendor selection, technology due diligence, contract review support, and third-party solution assessment.
- Familiarity with agile delivery, product management, project governance, and enterprise portfolio planning.
- Experience establishing or maturing an enterprise architecture function, including architecture review boards, standards repositories, technology catalogs, and architecture governance processes.
- Strong understanding of cost optimization, technology lifecycle management, technical debt management, and platform rationalization.
- Strong understanding of financial modeling, business cases, and cost optimization.
