Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Engine Technical Artist for a full-time, on-site role located in Taguig. The Senior Engine Technical Artist will be responsible for bridging the gap between art and technology by optimizing 3D assets for real-time game engines. The role involves creating and implementing shaders, troubleshooting technical issues, streamlining art workflows, and collaborating closely with artists, developers, and designers to achieve optimal in-game visuals and performance. The ideal candidate will also develop tools and processes to enhance the efficiency of production pipelines.
Responsibilities
1. In-Engine Scene Assembly & Integration
- Import 3D assets including characters, environment props, and VFX into Unity and Unreal Engine.
- Build levels/scenes within both engines, including lighting setup (baked and real-time) and post-processing for final visual atmosphere.
2. Materials & Visual Quality
- Implement high-quality materials in both Unity and Unreal Engine based on PBR workflow.
- Perform visual tuning according to scene style to ensure strong color presentation and well-defined forms.
3. Technical Art Collaboration (TA)
- Establish and standardize art asset production guidelines (e.g., polygon count, texture size, bone count) to ensure cross-engine compatibility.
- Assist in troubleshooting rendering issues and visual errors of assets within the engine.
4. Performance Analysis & Optimization
- Conduct performance analysis for mobile platforms (iOS/Android), optimizing GPU/CPU usage through mesh reduction, material simplification, and batching techniques.
- Achieve optimal balance between visual quality, package size, and runtime performance.
Requirements
1. Artistic Sense & Style
- Strong understanding of Euro-style (Western cartoon) aesthetics, with a keen sense of 3D form, line, and color block composition.
- Ability to accurately translate concept art into in-engine visuals.
2. Engine Expertise (Core Requirement)
- Unity: Proficient in URP/HDRP pipelines, familiar with material system, particle system, and lighting baking workflows.
- Unreal Engine: Proficient in UE4/UE5 environment setup, skilled in material blueprints, Lumen, and post-processing volumes.
3. Software Skills
- Proficient in at least one of 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender, as well as Substance Painter.
- Familiar with the full PBR production pipeline.
4. Industry Experience
- Experience shipping at least one complete 3D game project.
- Experience in iGaming or casual competitive games is a plus.
5. General Competencies
- Strong self-motivation and ability to adapt to AI-assisted art production workflows.
- Effective communication skills, able to collaborate with engineers, designers, and management, and clearly address technical challenges.
