Job Description

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Design Engineer (Australian Mining) with a strong design engineering background to support Australian mining and mineral processing projects. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who can perform engineering calculations, produce comprehensive design documentation, contribute to detailed drawings, and work confidently across both electrical and instrumentation disciplines. Working under the Engineering Lead, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on a variety of studies, plant expansion projects, and detailed design packages for mining and mineral processing facilities.

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM AWST

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Calculations: Perform complex design calculations using specialized spreadsheets and software, including load and cable sizing, short circuit, protection, arc flash, step/touch potential, and lighting studies.
  • Equipment Selection: Select appropriate electrical and instrumentation equipment based on technical calculations, client standards, and preferred vendor specifications.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and verify technical reports, data sheets, equipment lists, calculation write-ups, and material take-offs (MTOs).
  • Design Drawing & Drafting: Produce or support detailed 2D/3D design drawings using Autodesk tools, including: General arrangements and switchboard layouts, Single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and termination diagrams, and Marshalling layouts, block diagrams, and distribution board circuit schedules
  • Multi-Discipline Coordination: Coordinate closely with mechanical, piping, and architectural design teams to maintain structural alignment and project intent.
  • Standards Compliance: Apply client specifications and relevant Australian Standards and codes strictly throughout the design process.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Qualified Electrical Engineer with a professional degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Design Footprint: Minimum of 8+ years of dedicated engineering design experience (pure maintenance, field execution, installation, or electrician backgrounds will not be considered).
  • Calculation Mastery: Direct, verifiable experience executing engineering calculations (load lists, cable sizing, protection coordination, and lighting designs).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Proven experience applying Australian Standards and electrical codes within industrial design work.
  • Dual Scope Capability: Hands-on experience navigating both electrical and instrumentation design processes.
  • Software Literacy: Demonstrated capability to produce or support 2D design drawings and technical layouts using Autodesk or similar engineering platforms.

Qualifications

  • Australian Mining Exposure: 2+ years of direct experience supporting Australian mining, materials handling, or mineral processing projects is strongly preferred.
  • Commodity Experience: Prior project experience involving gold, lithium, or iron ore operations is highly regarded.
  • Project Lifecycle Familiarity: Experience working across various project phases, including concept studies, preliminary definition work, debottlenecking, expansions, and detailed design packages.

Project Environment Focus

  • Materials handling plants (crushing, screening, and conveying systems).
  • Mineral processing plants (tanks, pumps, flotation, milling, grinding, and cyclones).
  • Non-process infrastructure (workshops, warehouses, support buildings, and water treatment systems).
