We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role is responsible for leading the design and coordination of electrical systems for a variety of commercial, institutional, industrial, and mixed-use projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical leader, overseeing complex electrical designs, mentoring engineering staff, managing project budgets and schedules, and maintaining strong client relationships.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with extensive experience in MEP consulting, a strong understanding of electrical building systems, and a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for a variety of building projects.
- Apply advanced electrical engineering principles, calculations, codes, and industry standards to project designs.
- Develop design calculations, engineering narratives, specifications, work plans, and technical documentation with minimal supervision.
- Prepare and review electrical construction documents, including power and lighting plans, single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel schedules, and fixture schedules.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for smaller projects and designated portions of larger, more complex projects.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, client requirements, and industry best practices.
- Review and provide quality control oversight for work produced by junior and mid-level engineers.
- Mentor, train, and support team members to promote professional growth and technical excellence.
- Independently resolve complex engineering challenges and provide technical leadership across projects.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation while ensuring successful project delivery.
- Participate in internal and client meetings, providing technical guidance, design recommendations, and project updates.
- Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, architectural, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project solutions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting client satisfaction, repeat business, and new project opportunities.
- Provide cross-disciplinary engineering support and contribute to innovative project solutions.
- Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and project pursuits.
- Take ownership of project deliverables and maintain a high standard of technical quality and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- Minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering design experience within an MEP consulting environment.
- Extensive experience designing building electrical systems, including power, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams, mentoring staff, and overseeing complex projects.
- Experience working in an Architecture/Engineering (A/E) firm, consulting engineering firm, construction contractor environment, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, photometric software, and other electrical design tools.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems requiring electrical service and the ability to coordinate these requirements within project designs.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Experience leading large-scale and high-complexity projects across multiple market sectors.
- Experience with construction administration, field investigations, and site observations.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy-efficient building systems.
- Familiarity with electrical system studies, including load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and coordination studies.
