Scope of Position
Senior Associate is a senior level engineering position that exemplifies design and project delivery leadership. The primary responsibilities are leading and delivering completed designs on assigned projects, including coordination, client communication and construction administration. Responsibilities also include the supervision of staff assigned to the project, ensuring staff utilization, managing project budget and schedule. This position will assist the Lead Associate on various tasks to ensure success of the discipline within the business unit.
Job Responsibilities
1. Application of Knowledge of Building Systems (Conceptual Design)
a. Has a complete working knowledge of code including but not limited to: NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; and Building Codes
b. Working knowledge of building requirements for special occupancies
c. Works with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate systems/products are utilized in their facility.
d. Complete knowledge the design of power distribution, medium voltage and below
e. Complete knowledge of the application of emergency systems, legally required systems and optional standby systems.
f. Fully coordinates the connections of all power utilization component connections
g. Working knowledge of grounding design, proper application
h. Working knowledge of lightning protection design, proper application, system types
i. Lighting design, system types, and understanding of the following concepts:
i. Pros and cons for system applications
ii. Application of color temperatures
iii. Lighting rules such as spacing to mounting height ratio, manual point to point calculations, impact of horizontal and vertical foot-candles
iv. Life safety requirements (egress and exit marking)
v. Applications of various control systems
j. Documentation of calculations, reflecting code compliance of the following:
i. Lighting calculations
ii. Power load calculations
iii. Short circuit and voltage drop calculations
iv. Coordination studies
k. Fire alarm design
i. Smoke detection design
1. Smoke detection systems
2. Smoke detections applications
ii. Other system interconnections
iii. Device layout
l. Telecommunications design
i. Systems types
ii. Understanding of the EIA/TIA standards
m. Security
i. Card access system design, system types, functional procedures
ii. CCTV system design, system types
iii. Intrusion detection systems design, system types and applications
n. Paging and intercommunication systems design, system types and applications
2. Detail Design
a. Performs analysis of proposed and potential systems to present Value Engineering options to the facility owner for their consideration for the incorporation into the project.
b. Ensures that there are complete and accurate construction documents
c. Ensures that there are complete and accurate specifications
d. Understands and is able to manage design software
3. Design Project Execution
a. Prepares design estimates for assigned projects
b. Supervision of the staff assigned to the projects, ensuring optimal staff utilization
c. Overseeing the work performed by the assigned staff
d. Provides direction for what is to be included in design package issues
e. Works with Design/Engineering Managers to ensure that project schedule will be met and complete documents are provided for each submission.
f. Develops project within provided design budget and advises additional design fees when scope is expanded.
4. Construction Administration
a. Complete understanding of construction project execution process
b. Supports construction efforts by overseeing preparation of any required field orders, addenda or other drawing updates
c. Problem solving for field oversight including Requests for Information (RFI)
d. Shop drawing/Submittal review
e. Field observations and reports
5. Professional Development
a. Maintains required licensing CEU by proactively seeking training to expand knowledge
6. Leadership
a. Manages assigned staff on the projects
b. Provides coaching/mentoring of assigned staff promoting individual growth
c. Engages entire electrical team working with all team members.
d. Flexible and willing to quickly move between projects as needed to assist in meeting overall project schedules
7. Travel as required.
8. Other duties which may be assigned as needed.
9. May supervise others.
Education & Years of Experience
With a degree in Electrical Engineering, and a minimum of 5 years experience in electrical design and engineering as well as project experience on a variety of projects from simple to complex and small to large.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations, and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
