We are looking for a dedicated Senior Data Scientist to join our Automarking for Digital Assessments team. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the data assets, robust pipelines, and analytical processes that drive our automated marking systems.

What will you do as a Senior Data Scientist Reporting to the Automarking for Digital Assessments Team Lead, your accountabilities will include:
- Technical Leadership: Act as the data science SME, establishing team-wide standards for dataset development, data quality, and statistical evaluation methodologies.
- Dataset Ownership: Design, develop, and govern the critical training, validation, and benchmarking datasets used for machine learning models.
- Model Evaluation & Analytics: Lead the design of analytical frameworks and metrics to compare machine-generated scores against human marking, ensuring model consistency and fairness.
- Data Engineering: Lead the development of scalable data pipelines and analytical tooling to support robust experimentation workflows.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor colleagues in analytics and statistical reasoning while partnering with engineering and subject-matter experts to drive technical decisions.

What makes you the ideal candidate for this role
An ideal candidate has the following qualities:
Essential:
- Proven Leadership: Significant data science experience with a demonstrated ability to independently lead complex analytical initiatives and influence technical direction.
- Technical Expertise: Strong Python and SQL skills alongside extensive experience building data pipelines and processing large, complex datasets.
- Advanced Analytics: Extensive experience in experimental design, statistical evaluation, and defining metrics or benchmarks for machine learning performance.
- Communication & Collaboration: Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to translate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desirable:
- NLP & Automated Scoring: Experience supporting NLP development or evaluating machine learning outcomes against expert human decision-making.
- EdTech Domain: Experience within educational technology, learning platforms, or psychometrics.
- Cloud & Tooling: Experience building analytical tooling and working with cloud-based data platforms.
