ROLE SUMMARY
We're seeking a Senior Data Developer to design, build, and optimize scalable data solutions within Microsoft Fabric's unified analytics platform. You'll be responsible for engineering robust data pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and enabling advanced analytics and business intelligence through Fabric Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Power BI. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data engineering and analytics transforming data into clear, actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions.
This role reports directly to the Director of Data & Analytics and partners closely with executives and business leaders across the business, primarily operating within North America business hours.
SKILLS:
- Strong reporting demand planning and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance strategic and ad-hoc executive requests.
- Excellent data presentation and storytelling, translating complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for leadership.
- Advanced Power BI expertise, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query (M), and complex visualization techniques.
- Proficiency in SQL and Spark SQL, with advanced experience in writing and optimizing queries using SELECT, JOIN, UNION, GROUP BY, etc.
- Experience working with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse) and Power BI semantic models.
- Strong background integrating Dataverse, Dynamics 365, Azure SQL, and Data Lake sources for enterprise reporting.
- Excellent visualization and executive dashboarding skills, tailored for leadership audiences across Finance, Sales, Marketing, etc.
- Strategic approach to insight delivery, promoting adoption of Power BI over Excel and driving a self-service analytics culture.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with executives and senior leaders, particularly in North America time zones, with professionalism and business acumen.
- Proven capacity to translate business requirements into scalable data models and KPIs.
- Agile and iterative delivery mindset, ensuring frequent value delivery and continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security roles, and quality frameworks in enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) principles (desirable but not essential).
- Understanding of enterprise data integrations across SQL, Data Lakes, and Power Platform environments.
- Proactive learner with enthusiasm for adopting emerging Microsoft technologies (e.g., Fabric Copilot, Real-Time Intelligence, AI-powered reporting).
- Ability to foster a data-driven culture through collaboration, education, and continuous improvement of reporting practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Power BI solutions, including reports, dashboards, shared datasets/semantic models, and dataflows, aligned with best practices in performance and governance.
- Engineer and optimize Power BI data models to enable scalable, accurate, and efficient reporting across departments
- Review, enhance, and standardize existing reports, promoting the adoption of shared datasets, semantic models, and reusable dataflows for consistency across the organization.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from relational and cloud-based sources.
- Design and implement data models and visualizations leveraging Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, and other enterprise platforms such as HubSpot, SharePoint, and external APIs.
- Collaborate with Data & Analytics and Data Science Teams to deliver data-driven solutions and insights that support strategic business decisions.
- Partner with business stakeholders and executives (primarily across North America) to translate analytical requirements into effective data models and visual insights.
- Develop operational analytics using descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive models to improve business outcomes and decision-making.
- Create ad-hoc reports, data models, and analysis to address urgent or evolving business requirements.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation for all designed data solutions, ensuring transparency and maintainability.
- Contribute to Agile delivery by creating and managing user stories in Azure DevOps, tracking progress, and delivering outcomes within defined sprints.
- Monitor and resolve production reporting issues, prioritizing according to severity and business impact.
- Provide Power BI enablement and training to departmental users, fostering a culture of self-service analytics and data literacy.
- Continuously evaluate new Microsoft Fabric and Power BI capabilities, recommending enhancements to improve scalability, performance, and user adoption.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree with strong statistical, technical or analytical component: for example, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance or Statistics
- Microsoft Power BI, Azure Data Fundamentals, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement or Finance and Operations, Data Engineering, Data Science or similar certifications (Desirable but not essential)
