Job Description

Role Purpose:

  • Responsible for conducting financial and credit analysis for Corporate Banking and Financial Institution clients, supporting credit proposals, financial modeling, internal risk rating and portfolio monitoring.
  • Leads the Post-Loan Management function, ensuring ongoing monitoring of borrower performance, covenant compliance, and early warning indicators.
  • Supports risk oversight, audit coordination and operational risk control and acts as an Assistant Compliance and Operational Risk Control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Credit & Financial Analysis and Proposal Support

  • Conduct a standard financial statement analysis of corporate and financial institution borrowers, or counterparties. Included in financial analysis sections of credit proposals, renewals, amendments and facility / account credit reviews on a timely basis.
  • Perform periodic credit reviews, re-assessing borrower financial performance, leverage profile, liquidity position, and repayment capacity.
  • Conduct Term Loan Reviews, evaluating loan utilization, repayment behavior, covenant compliance, and alignment with the approved credit structure. Likewise, conduct Variance Analysis, comparing actual financial performance against projections and identifying drivers of deviation and potential credit implications.
  • Conduct client/ plant / warehouse visits with the Relationship Manager to check on the level of business activity.
  • Identify Key Risk Areas affecting the borrower, including business risks, financial risks, industry risks and structural risks within the borrower and the credit facility.
  • In coordination with the Relationship Manager, formulate risk mitigating actions and structural protections such as covenants, collateral coverage, or monitoring requirements where appropriate.
  • Define key risk triggers that may indicate deterioration in borrower credit quality, including financial thresholds, covenant breaches, operational disruptions, or adverse market developments and develop monitoring strategies and early warning indicators to support effective post loan management and timely escalation of emerging risks.

B. Post Loan Management

  • Lead the Post-Loan Management function to ensure continuous monitoring of borrower performance and compliance with credit terms.
  • Ensure preparation, consolidation and timely submission of Post Approval Credit Reviews (if any) for applicable accounts.
  • Oversee the consolidation and review of the Watchlist and Special Mention accounts, including tracking of corrective actions and risk developments, and report to the Risk Management Department.
  • Coordinate and consolidate Quarterly Early Warning Checklists, identifying emerging risk indicators across the borrower portfolio. Tracks the compliance with covenants, credit conditions, management requirements and documentary requirements.
  • Monitor Loan Funds Flow to ensure proceeds are utilized in accordance with the approved loan purpose and facility structure.
  • Monitor YBD rating or Classification changes and provide responses to CCMC BOCHK.
  • Conduct daily monitoring of stock price movements and alert the concerned RM for stock movements beyond the threshold. Advice designated RM to prepare a memo to timely document the underlying cause for the identified stock movement.
  • Conducts stress testing as and when necessary or mandated by Senior Management/Risk Management Department.
  • Escalate material risk developments, covenant breaches, or adverse financial trends to relevant stakeholders.

C. Business Control and Policy Governance

  • Assists in the review and updating of credit policies, procedures and product manuals to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and internal risk standards.
  • Support the implementation and communication of policy changes, regulatory circulars, and internal credit guidelines within the department.
  • Conduct periodic independent credit reviews (ICR) ensuring compliance with internal policies, approval conditions and documentation standards, as required.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating credit templates, analysis formats, monitoring reports, and internal guidelines used by the department.
  • Support the department in closing audit findings and regulatory observations, ensuring proper documentation and remediation actions.
  • Coordinate with Risk Management Department, Legal, Compliance and AML Departments, and Internal Audit Departments on matters relating to credit processes and controls.
  • Monitor adherence to credit approval conditions and policy limits, highlighting any deviations or breaches.
  • Assist in preparing internal management reports and risk dashboards relating to portfolio quality and credit monitoring.
  • Support process improvements initiatives aimed at strengthening credit governance and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining the department's risk control documentation, including operational risk registers and internal control frameworks.
  • Assist the CMBSC Head in roll-out of projects or make the new tasks operationalize.

Job Specifications and Experiences Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field
  • CPA or CBCA certification is an advantage (not required)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in credit evaluation or risk analysis in a reputable financial institution
  • Preferably with client-facing experience (e.g., Relationship Manager/Account Officer) and strong understanding of borrower business models and corporate banking practices
  • Experience in evaluating Financial Institutions is a plus
  • Strong background in financial statement analysis, credit proposals, credit reviews, and term loan assessments
