POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Auditor to lead external audit engagements for a global professional services firm. This is a remote, independent contractor position, ideal for a qualified CPA with a strong foundation in audit methodology and team leadership.

As a Senior Auditor, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality audit services by managing fieldwork, reviewing complex work papers, and ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements. You will guide your team through all phases of the audit process from planning and execution to reporting while maintaining a strong focus on quality, productivity, and client satisfaction. This role requires a proactive communicator and critical thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive successful outcomes in a fast-paced remote environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Audit Engagement & Execution
  • Lead and manage full-cycle external audit engagements, ensuring alignment with professional standards and firm methodologies.
  • Review complex work papers and financial statements with accuracy, ensuring quality deliverables are submitted on time.
  • Plan audit engagements, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
  • Identify audit risks early in the engagement and implement solutions to mitigate them effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship on complex accounting and auditing issues, including research and interpretation of relevant standards.
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the audit process, maintaining open and professional communication.
  • Coordinate deliverables between team members and clients to ensure engagement milestones are met.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by offering insights and addressing concerns promptly.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and support junior and mid-level audit staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
  • Oversee fieldwork and delegate tasks effectively while ensuring consistency and quality across all deliverables.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members, contributing to their technical growth and professional development.
Budget & Engagement Management
  • Monitor team productivity and ensure audit engagements remain within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Prepare and track engagement budgets, aligning resources to meet project requirements efficiently.
  • Coordinate closely with audit managers and other stakeholders to ensure cost-effective audit execution.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure all audit documentation complies with internal and regulatory quality standards.
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting enhancements to audit tools, workflows, and methodologies.
  • Stay informed on updates to accounting and auditing standards and integrate them into practice as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of continuous experience in external audit or a closely related field
  • At least 2 years of experience leading audit teams and managing end-to-end audit engagements
  • Demonstrated expertise in audit planning, budgeting, resourcing, and execution across both standard and complex audit sections
  • Proven ability to review and sign off on work papers with a focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Experience in preparing financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; familiarity with CaseWare is an advantage
  • Knowledge of Australian auditing methodologies is a plus
  • Additional certifications or specialized training in accounting or auditing are beneficial
  • Strong understanding of audit risk assessment and adherence to professional and regulatory standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and audit documentation
  • Exceptional communication and client relationship management skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote, deadline-driven environment

Internet Requirements:
  • Candidates must have a stable internet connection (minimum 20 Mbps upload / 10 Mbps download speed with latency under 30ms).
  • A reliable backup power source is required in case of interruptions.
