The Senior AU Payroll Officer plays a critical role in delivering accurate, compliant end-to-end Australian payroll by reviewing Time & Attendance data, validating timesheets, interpreting Australian Modern Awards, and resolving payroll discrepancies before every pay run. Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of proven end-to-end Australian payroll experience, including Time & Attendance (T&A), timesheet validation, payroll processing, reconciliation, compliance, and post-payroll activities
  • Hands-on experience reviewing raw timesheets, validating attendance data, investigating discrepancies, and resolving scheduled versus actual hours worked before payroll processing
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, including STP, PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, WorkCover, payroll compliance, and Modern Awards (penalty rates, overtime, allowances, shift loadings, and award interpretation)
  • Experience using MYOB or similar Australian payroll systems, with advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills; Salesforce experience is an advantage
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently investigate payroll exceptions and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to support employees, managers, and stakeholders on payroll matters

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate Time & Attendance records before managing end-to-end weekly Australian payroll, ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
  • Review and interpret Australian Modern Awards to correctly apply employee classifications, remuneration, penalty rates, overtime, and allowances
  • Administer the online Time & Attendance system and employee self-service platform
  • Prepare payroll reports, including weekly margin, superannuation reconciliations, and other payroll-related reporting
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, databases, including WorkCover, Payroll Tax, WIC codes, Portable Long Service Leave, and employee information
  • Prepare and upload Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions while ensuring payroll system integrity and recordkeeping compliance
  • Respond to payroll enquiries and provide timely support through the payroll mailbox
  • Monitor Australian payroll legislation and regulatory changes to maintain ongoing compliance
  • Support payroll projects, reporting, system testing, process improvements, and payroll administration, including invoicing support, in collaboration with payroll and finance leaders
