JOB OVERVIEW
Accountant (US/UK)
The Accountant is responsible for performing a range of operational tasks and managing junior staff
(if any) in relation to bookkeeping, accounting, reporting and compliance tasks for Standard Ledger
UK (SL UK) clients.
SL UK is a UK-based accounting firm dedicated to supporting start-up businesses, helping founders and business owners succeed by effectively managing their financials.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
. Communicate directly with clients and sub-clients via email and phone
. Lead weekly calls and follow up on tasks/requests
. Handle US and/or UK bookkeeping, payroll (including pension registration), and end-to-end accounting and reporting for clients using Xero
. Onboard new clients, including regular check-ins
. Review bookkeeping processed by junior staff and provide support as needed and applicable
. Perform clean up and accounts reconciliation of books
. Prepare and review UK VAT returns for each client before sending the returns for final review and lodgment
. Handle UK VAT and Payroll/PAYE setup and registrations, and oversee the entire company secretarial process
. Perform necessary adjustments for tax return preparation
. Standard notice period: 60 days. For resignations overlapping the December shutdown period, the notice period extends to 90 days.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Non- Negotiable Qualifications:
. Education: Bachelor of Science in Accountancy or equivalent
. Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years finance and accounting experience
. Industry Exposure: N/A
. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets, including spreadsheet formulas
. Soft Skills: Attention to detail strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously strong verbal and written communication skills highly organized and efficient ability to work independently with minimal supervision ability to work effectively under pressure flexibility and resourcefulness in handling client queries and concerns willingness to extend beyond immediate responsibilities and take on new challenges ability to meet strict compliance deadlines in a highly automated environment
