About the Client
Our client is a U.S.-based sports and entertainment organization operating across professional sports, live events, retail, and technology. The company manages multiple business entities and is continuing to scale its financial operations as it brings more of its accounting function in-house.
About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to take ownership of key accounting operations across a fast-paced, multi-entity organization.
Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, this role will play a critical part in bringing accounting activities back in-house, strengthening month-end close processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and preparing multiple entities for upcoming audits.
The ideal candidate is a highly capable, hands-on accounting professional who can quickly step into a complex environment, understand how the business operates, identify what needs attention, and move the work forward without requiring extensive direction. This is not a purely supervisory position—you should be comfortable jumping directly into reconciliations, journal entries, close activities, and audit preparation when needed.
Responsibilities
- Own and support month-end close activities across multiple business entities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, account analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Help transition accounting activities from external or international resources back into the internal accounting function.
- Quickly develop an understanding of existing accounting processes, financial structures, and business operations and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and investigate discrepancies or unusual account balances.
- Support accounting operations across multiple business lines, including professional sports, live events, retail, and software.
- Prepare and review financial schedules and supporting documentation for upcoming audits across multiple entities.
- Help prepare entities undergoing first-time audits by ensuring accounts, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation are audit-ready.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and other accounting resources throughout the audit process.
- Review accounting work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting practices.
- Identify issues during the close process and proactively drive them through resolution.
- Help establish stronger accounting processes, controls, documentation, and close procedures as accounting operations move in-house.
- Work within Sage Intacct to maintain accurate accounting records and support financial reporting processes.
- Support accounts payable workflows and related accounting activities using Stampli.
- Use Asana and other internal systems to manage accounting tasks, deadlines, priorities, and cross-functional deliverables.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with several operating entities and business lines.
- • Partner closely with finance leadership and independently take ownership of accounting issues as they arise.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, controls, and scalability.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive professional accounting experience, including meaningful experience owning or managing month-end close processes.
- Strong hands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and financial close activities.
- Demonstrated ability to independently step into an accounting environment, understand existing processes, and take ownership with limited direction.
- Experience working within a multi-entity or multi-business accounting environment.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting and U.S. GAAP.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing audit schedules and supporting external financial audits.
- Strong ability to investigate accounting discrepancies, identify root causes, and independently drive issues to resolution.
- Experience reviewing accounting work and maintaining high standards for accuracy and completeness.
- Strong proficiency with ERP and accounting systems.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including experience working with large accounting datasets and reconciliation schedules.
- Highly organized and capable of managing a heavy month-end close workload and multiple concurrent deadlines.
- Self-starter with strong judgment and the ability to determine priorities without requiring constant direction.
- Comfortable remaining hands-on with accounting work while also managing broader processes and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving organization with multiple business lines.
- Must be available to work U.S. business hours.
Bonus Experience
- Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct.
- Experience using Stampli or similar accounts payable automation platforms.
- Experience using Asana or similar project and task management systems.
- Experience helping an organization transition accounting processes from outsourced or international teams back in-house.
- Experience preparing companies or entities for their first financial statement audit.
- Experience supporting accounting across professional sports, live events, retail, software, or similarly complex multi-business organizations.
- Experience working within rapidly growing or operationally complex companies.
- Services to be Provided: The Contractor will provide hands-on accounting management services for the Client's business entities. Services include managing month-end close activities; preparing and reviewing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, account analyses, and financial schedules; maintaining accurate general ledger records; and investigating and resolving accounting discrepancies.
- The Contractor will support the transition of accounting activities in-house, document and improve close procedures and internal controls, and prepare accounting records and supporting schedules for external audits, including first-time audits. The Contractor will coordinate with finance leadership, internal stakeholders, auditors, and other accounting resources; review accounting work for accuracy and completeness; and support accounts payable and financial reporting activities using the Client's designated systems, including Sage Intacct, Stampli, and Asana.
- Services will be performed during U.S. business hours and may cover the Client's sports, live events, retail, technology, and other business operations.
