Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Associate to support our Australian client based in Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing day-to-day accounting functions, preparing financial reports, assisting in month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

The role requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities General Accounting

  • Perform bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and other adjusting entries.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare management reports and financial statements.

Accounts Receivable

  • Process invoices and customer billings.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies.

Accounts Payable

  • Process supplier invoices and payments.
  • Reconcile supplier statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of expenses.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management reports and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in preparing statutory reports and lodgments.
  • Support budget preparation and variance analysis.

Compliance and Tax Support

  • Assist with BAS (Business Activity Statement) preparation and other Australian tax compliance requirements.
  • Support payroll reconciliation and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records for audit purposes.

Client Support

  • Liaise with Australian stakeholders and respond to accounting-related inquiries.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and team members.
  • Participate in meetings with the Melbourne team as required.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Assist in the implementation of accounting systems and process enhancements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy.
  • CPA license is an advantage.

Experience

  • At least 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting Australian clients or Australian accounting firms is highly preferred.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Exposure to Australian taxation and compliance requirements is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using accounting software such as:
  • Xero
  • MYOB

Competencies

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling Australian bookkeeping and accounting engagements.
  • Knowledge of BAS, GST, payroll processing, and Australian financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience working directly with Australian clients.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems and workflow management tools.

Reporting To: Australian Client Manager / Team Lead

Work Schedule: 7am-4PM (Hybrid) or as may be required by the client.
