Senior Accountant (NZ)
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant role is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensure appropriate counting control procedures for various departments and divisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform full cycle accounting tasks, including but not limited to preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for the assigned areas
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts
- Preparation of monthly financial statements including, but not limited to, balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and trial balance with associated working papers
- Oversee and perform statistical analysis to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes
- Assist finance team with updating proformas with actual data
- Manage relationships between accounting/finance, portfolio management and operations teams to ensure information is communicated timely to meet reporting deadlines
- Prepare financial statement disclosures necessary for GAAP and/or IFRS reporting standards
- Review loan agreements, prepare and maintain amortization schedules including calculating and preparing loan payments
- Assist in year-end closing and auditing activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Provide mentorship for Staff Accountant(s) and work closely with the Accounting Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- Minimum of 7+ years of progressive and related experience in Corporate Accounting and/or Financial Reporting (NZ GAAP)
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance is required
- CPA certification preferred
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide business-driving recommendations
- Proficiency in creating and analyzing reports and an ability to integrate data into a cohesive analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office preferred/Microsoft Excel experience required)
- Understanding of standing accounting software, Microsoft Dynamics knowledge a plus
