Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing high-level accounting activities, supporting the month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records. This role handles complex accounting tasks such as accrual calculations, bank reconciliations, payroll entries, account analysis, and month-end adjustments. The Senior Accountant also supports the preparation of formal financial statements and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and review month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and closing adjustments.
- Prepare and calculate monthly accruals, prepayments, provisions, and other adjusting entries.
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unusual items.
- Prepare and post journal entries for payroll, accruals, reclassifications, depreciation, and other accounting transactions.
- Analyze general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are properly recorded and supported.
- Review account balances and identify discrepancies, unusual fluctuations, and potential accounting issues.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and complete general ledger records in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare supporting schedules and account analyses for financial reporting and audit requirements.
- Prepare formal financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and related schedules.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate with Finance, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and other teams to resolve accounting issues.
- Perform other accounting and financial reporting activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a full-cycle or general accounting environment.
- Strong experience in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Hands-on experience with accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, payroll accounting, and general ledger activities.
- Experience preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
