Role Overview:The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the insurance finance team, focusing on ceded reinsurance accounting and reporting. This role requires strong technical skills in GAAP and STAT reporting, advanced Excel proficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively with brokers and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all processes.
Key Responsibilities:Ceded Reinsurance Accounting:
- Handle monthly and quarterly ceded reinsurance results and analyses for internal and external reporting.
- Oversee treaty, facultative (FAC), and proportional calculations, entries, billing, receipts, and disbursements.
- Manage calculation, booking, billing, and collection of ceded payables and recoverables, including profit and sliding scale commissions.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare and review detailed journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Assist with GAAP and STAT reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare quarterly and annual Schedule F exhibits for NAIC and other regulatory filings (conceptual knowledge acceptable).
- Ensure all work is properly tied out for compliance purposes.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Support the ongoing implementation of a new in-house ceded reinsurance system.
- Drive continuous improvement in the reinsurance accounting cycle to enhance close cycles, controls, and understanding.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Review broker statements and market reports; liaise with brokers for reconciliations and inquiries.
- Lead and support ad hoc reporting and special projects.
Ideal Candidate Profile:- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in ceded reinsurance accounting (more is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT reporting standards.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas); familiarity with Power BI is a plus.
- Familiarity with broker statements, journal entries, and market reports.
- Knowledge of Schedule F (conceptual understanding acceptable).
- Experience with Essbase and Oracle (preferred but not required).
- Other Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for broker interaction.
- Highly detail-oriented and organized with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
