Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting cycle of the client and its related entities, own a defined part of the month-end close, and help prepare for the year-end audit. It is a hands-on job with direct customer contact, suited to an accountant who has already worked through month-end and year-end elsewhere and now wants more ownership.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday

Work Setup: Hybrid

JOB RESPONSBILITIES:

Month-end close

You own a set part of the close and deliver it on time. You do this work on your own; the Accounting Manager checks it afterwards rather than watching over it.

  • Close the receivables and payables subledgers to the close timetable.
  • Prepare accruals and prepayments.
  • Complete the balance sheet reconciliations assigned to you, and clear reconciling items rather than rolling them into the next month.
  • Give your part of the close to the Accounting Manager by the date in the timetable. If something is going wrong, say so during the month, not at review.

Receivables and credit control

  • Prepare and send the monthly invoices to resident companies, using the utilisation reports from each site.
  • Keep utilisation records accurate. If a figure looks wrong, check it with the site team before you invoice, not after.
  • Send statements, chase overdue accounts, and follow them through until they are paid or resolved.
  • Agree payment plans within the limits you are given and write them down. For hardship requests and settlement offers, escalate with a recommendation — tell us what you think we should do, not only what the customer said.
  • Reconcile security deposits and adjust them when a customer moves in, change their space, or leaves. Raise credit notes with a written reason.

Payables

  • Enter supplier bills and code them to the right account, entity, project and location.
  • Get the GST treatment right on every transaction. We expect this to be correct the first time, not fixed by the reviewer.
  • Send bills for approval through ApprovalMax and sort out anything that gets stuck.
  • Prepare payment runs for authorisation, send remittance advices, keep supplier details up to date, and answer supplier questions.

General ledger, bank and year-end

  • Reconcile the bank feeds and keep unreconciled items cleared. Prepare journals for review.
  • Prepare year-end working papers and schedules for your areas, and answer audit questions. The Accounting Manager deals with the auditors directly; you provide the support behind those answers.
  • Keep your files and workpapers up to date through the year, so that at year-end you are collecting what already exists rather than rebuilding it.

Process, documentation and AI

We expect this from your first month, not after a year. The client is adopting AI across the business. We provide a Claude subscription and training.

  • Write and maintain the procedures for the tasks you own, and update them when the task changes.
  • When something is slow or error-prone, suggest a specific fix — what to change, not just what is wrong.
  • Use AI to draft, check and speed up routine work: emails, documentation, reconciliation checks and analysis.
  • Know when you can rely on what AI gives you and when you must check it against the original document. You are responsible for the accuracy of your work, not the tool.
  • Look for tasks worth automating, try them, and build what works into the written procedures.

Communication

  • Deal directly with resident companies and suppliers on invoices, payments, overdue accounts and account queries. Most of this you will handle yourself.
  • Speak to customers by phone and video, including about money they owe and payment arrangements.
  • Work well across the time difference. Write so a colleague in Sydney can act on your message without having to call you back, and give them the background, not just a question.

Who we are looking for:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent.
  • CPA or studying toward CPA or CA is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of Australian Accounting experience.
  • Experience of month-end close where you were responsible for part of it, not only watching it happen.
  • You have worked through at least one year-end and external audit.
  • Australian GST experience is strongly preferred. You will be responsible for GST coding being right.
  • Solid Xero experience. ApprovalMax or a similar approval tool. Excel and Google Sheets to the level of lookups, pivots and SUMIFS.
  • You have used AI tools at work, or you are keen to. Experience with Claude is an advantage but not required — we provide the subscription and the training.
  • Strong written English and the discipline to communicate well when colleagues are offline.

What's in it for you

  • Competitive salary + non-taxable allowances
  • Health & wellness benefits to keep you at your best
  • Paid vacation and sick leave credits
  • Yearly performance bonuses
  • FREE meals on office days
  • Parent-friendly office
  • Training, certifications & CPD assistance
  • PRC license renewal reimbursement
  • Fun employee activities all year round
