Overview

Our client is a performance-driven digital marketing agency based in Toronto, specializing in paid search (SEM) and paid social advertising. The team manages campaigns across Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, and Meta for a portfolio of clients spanning multiple verticals. The agency operates with a lean team of media traders and account managers, with a strong emphasis on technical precision and copy quality.

They need a part-time SEM specialist to support the Director of Search with campaign execution across Google Ads and Performance Max. The role is hands-on and production-focused: building campaigns, writing tightly keyword-aligned ad copy, refreshing creative assets, and serving as a technical resource for the account management team on paid search and Meta questions. There is no direct client communication. All work is briefed and reviewed by the Director of Search.

Key Responsibilities

Google Ads Campaign Execution

  • Build and structure Google Ads Search campaigns from scratch, including keyword grouping, match types, ad group architecture, and bidding strategy alignment
  • Set up and optimize Performance Max campaigns with proper asset group structure, audience signals, and conversion goal configuration
  • Execute campaign refreshes: update ad copy, swap creatives, adjust keyword lists, and implement negative keyword strategies based on performance data

Ad Copy & Creative Production

  • Write high-quality, keyword-aligned ad copy for search campaigns that reflects each client's website messaging, brand tone, and value proposition
  • Produce responsive search ad (RSA) variations with strong headline and description pin strategies
  • Update creative assets and customer match lists for Performance Max and paid social campaigns
  • AI-assisted copy production is acceptable, but all output must be tight, specific, and indistinguishable from expert-written copy

Technical Support & Collaboration

  • Act as a technical resource for account managers on paid search and Meta campaign questions
  • Assist with campaign troubleshooting, conversion tracking validation, and account structure reviews when flagged
  • Follow task management workflows in Monday.com and communicate progress and blockers via Slack
  • Maintain clean, organized campaign builds that follow the agency's naming conventions and structural standards

Key Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • 4+ years of hands-on Google Ads experience, specifically in Search and Performance Max campaign builds
  • Proven ability to write high-converting, keyword-aligned ad copy that is tight, specific, and client-relevant
  • Strong understanding of Google Ads campaign architecture: match types, ad group structure, bidding strategies, audience targeting, and negative keyword management
  • Experience with Performance Max: asset group design, audience signals, creative best practices, and conversion goal setup
  • Working knowledge of Meta Business Suite / Ads Manager for basic campaign support
  • Comfortable working from detailed briefs with minimal hand-holding and delivering within defined turnaround windows
  • Strong written English with attention to nuance, tone, and keyword alignment in ad copy

Advantageous:

  • Microsoft Ads experience (campaign builds and management)
  • Experience working within a digital marketing agency environment supporting multiple client accounts
  • Familiarity with Monday.com for task management
  • Google Ads certification (current)
  • Experience with conversion tracking setup (Google Tag Manager, GA4 events)
  • Background in competitive keyword analysis and search query mining

  • Technically precise. Your campaign builds are clean, well-structured, and follow naming conventions without being reminded. You understand why structure matters for reporting, optimization, and scaling.
  • Self-directed within scope. You receive a brief, execute against it, and deliver. You ask sharp clarifying questions upfront rather than guessing. You don't need daily check-ins to stay productive.
  • Reliable turnaround. Standard items come back in 3 business days. You communicate early if something will take longer. You never leave a task status ambiguous.
  • Collaborative without being high-maintenance. You work well with account managers and respond to technical questions clearly and concisely. You're helpful without being chatty.

Additional Information
