Position Summary
This role serves as occupational therapeutic support for students with intellectual disabilities, autism and visual impairments. The successful candidate will be part of the student's educational team who furnish support and provide interventions for students to participate in school activities and achieve independence within the school setting. In addition to supporting students, the OT plays a critical role in communicating with the students parent, educators, administrators, and other key members. By working with the students team they can provide the collaborative environment needed to achieve optimal success. The therapist will provide the best program for students while working within a Catholic environment where Catholic values define the words and actions or all.
The ideal candidate will be dynamic and energetic with a demonstrated ability to work independently while handling and maintaining confidential information and always exercising discretion/discernment in handling student records and school matters. Problem solving will be key in providing appropriate and successful programming. This role requires professionalism, organization, and effective communication.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Evaluate students to determine the need for occupational therapy and for evaluation reports.
- Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives aiming to promote fine motor, perceptual motor, self-care, sensory integration skills and play activities as needed for students.
- Monitor and revise IEP goals and objectives as needed and communicate with all team members to ensure the effectiveness of services provided.
- Attend multidisciplinary team and IEP meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Demonstrate appropriate behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Provide progress reports to teachers, parents and team members as needed.
- Adhere to deadlines for submission of IEP goals/objectives, Progress Reports, Re-evaluation reports, and any other paperwork required by the school or districts.
- Develop appropriate therapy programs including routines for classrooms and adaptations for students as needed.
- OT delivers services within the school setting, including pull-out and push-in services.
- Provide consultation and training to staff to ensure student success.
- Make recommendations for adaptive equipment or modifications to facilitate learning and participation.
- Provide on-going data collection to determine intervention success and progress in goals.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the student's team, other related services professionals, outside service providers, and student's family to design and implement appropriate services.
- To be knowledgeable in sensory processing and self-regulation skills for implementation
Qualifications & Skills
- Master's Degree or above from an accredited program
- Licensed or certified as an Occupational Therapist
- Broad knowledge of sensory integration, self-regulation, and social skills
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with a team.
- Familiar with IEP goal writing and progress reporting
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective problem-solving skills to address students individual needs.
- Interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work autonomously without extensive oversight or directions.
Working Conditions
- Ten-month school year, full time position would cover the three schools. Monday through Friday: with the option of part-time limited hours in the Summer for ESY Program; an occasional evening or weekend
- A valid driver's license and travel to the schools is expected as a part of the position.
- The majority of this job will be spent indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.
- Must be able to carry and lift items weighing up to 15 pounds.
